GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

For tonight I'll do the linkcheck so that's out of the way.

  • Ref #16 (nightclub brawl) doesn't work. Wizardman 06:07, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alright. Also, make sure the refs are properly formatted. Wizardman 16:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the full review:

  • Ref #14 (Landers award) doesn't work either, after double-checking that one.
  • Refs #7 and 8 need to be properly formatted.
  • The 2005 and 2006 season details seem to pale to the 2007 season, even though McFadden was surely productive in the first two. Expand those a bit, possibly cutting back on the 2007 season if need be.

** I'll fix this later when I have a bit more time.

      • I've added bits and pieces to the first section. Really, the seasons when speaking primarily about stats are comparable to McFadden's actions and successes in each of those seasons, but I don't want to fill any of them with tons of stats. I'll probably trim the last section a bit, too. Mastrchf (t/c) 22:09, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Numbers up to ten need to be spelled out.
    • I've done all except "record of 10 wins and 4 losses", which I left as is due to it being virtually identical to a numerical record "10-4". Mastrchf (t/c) 22:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are some statements that need citing:
    • Additionally, he was for the second consecutive season a consensus All-America selection.
    • McFadden ended his college career as the most decorated player in school history, and holds virtually all of the university's rushing records, and is also in a number of the SEC's all-time top 10 rushing spots. (and the rest of the paragraph, for that matter)
    • Cable stated “Well what really dictated was the rotation we were in, terms of the game, the flow of the game. I think [Justin] Fargas played pretty well. It’s just those situations present themselves."
  • "McFadden is expecting a potential child later this year, as one of two paternity tests came back negative, with the other test results due sometime in mid-April" If he's "possibly expecting a child" in April 2008, then this is way out of date.
    • I removed this, as I couldn't find any valid/verifiable reference that mentioned anything. Mastrchf (t/c) 22:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i'll put the article on hold for all this to be fixed, and upon completion I'll re-read the article and look for more, since I don't consider it a GA yet. Wizardman 18:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everything looks good that's been fixed, I'll re-review the article again tomorrow. Wizardman 06:00, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's ready for your re-review whenever you're up to it. Mastrchf (t/c) 00:24, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, here's Part II of the Darren McFadden quest for GA. (It's more catchy than re-review :P)

  • One of my concerns isn't about the article itself so much, but rather the fact that this is one of those articles which will be very time-sensitive. It'll be one that needs to be both updated and handled carefully. That being said, that doesn't hurt its GA status now at all, just a future note.
    • I'll make sure to keep a good handle on the article :D. Mastrchf (t/c) 00:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "But McFadden chose to end the recruiting process early and attend the University of Arkansas," I don't like "but" being used to start off a sentence, so reword (it didn't sound right taking "but" right out else i'd have just done that)
  • Is the Cable quote mentioned above cited at the end of the paragraph? Per guidelines it needs to be placed right after the quote as well, presuming Ref #8 is citing both quotes.
  • I'd like a better caption on the second McFadden pic (Arkansas vs. Tennessee doesn't tell anything to the reader)
  • I'd like to see the specific numbers for Heisman voting added in, if they're useful for the reader (i.e. if there's a big gap or if the results were close. if the numbers don't really mean anything then you can omit this)
    • Added these in. The numbers aren't of great significance, but they do add something to simple statements.Mastrchf (t/c) 00:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I feel quite a bit more comfortable with the article now than I did earlier. Just fix this stuff and I'll likely pass it. Wizardman 20:17, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And now, Part III, the part's that's generally shorter and not as fun as the first two. This is all I found remaining, upon completion I have no problem passing the article.

  • I removed a lead sentence about kiffin since it didn't flow well. If you disagree let me know.
  • "McFadden attended Oak Grove High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where while he played a variety of positions, he was primarily used as a running back on offense, and a safety on defense." Citation needed, i presume there's one elsewhere on the page but if so, then use it twice.

Yup, just that little bit. I've nitpicked this article well enough, it's good now after this. Wizardman 04:25, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't nitpicked, just given a thorough review! I'd rather take the extra time and get the article improved to be a true GA than have someone just pass a bad article. Mastrchf (t/c) 13:00, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After further thought and yet another read-through, I've decided to pass the article. It's comprehensive, but not overly so, which gives the article space to build (unlike, say, Colt McCoy's, whose going to have to get his trimmed down over the next couple years or it'll be 150kb). The only thing I would ask if you're looking to go for a higher status/keeping it at FA is, besides the updating, an addition of some more personal life details. They are there somewhat (though we took the one chunk out), though more is nice. Wizardman 04:50, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
