Diss Grammar School Confusion[edit]

Diss High School is NOT the same as Diss Grammar School - there were two schools in Diss up until the 1980's. You have James Henry Govier and Ralph Howell at the wrong school (the High school whereas they were at the Grammar School) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.45.212.198 (talk) 12:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that DGS formed part of the basis for the current DHS - i.e. the schools officially merged rather than anything else. In those circumstances it's usual that the two schools share an article - especially if both articles would be pretty short and basic stubs. If there's the material to justify a separate DGS article then by all means go ahead and add it. Otherwise add a note that these guys went to DGS by all means - don't forget, anyone can edit Wikipedia! Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:57, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You have articles linking people to an institution that did not exist when they were alive. For example, Roger Deakin taught at the Grammar School: by listing him as teaching at the High School (which was actually called the Secondary Modern and was extant at a different site altogether) you are performing a disservice to the English teachers at the other school of the time. It's like listing Erich Honecker as the head of the current Federal Republic of Germany. It might be "usual" that two different historical locations "share an article" but that does not, of course, make it correct. It is not necessary to add information regarding DGS, merely to not weld it with another, distinct entity for the purpose of the administrative convenience of not having 'short and basic stubs'. There is nothing preventing you having an article for DGS, one for the Secondary Modern of the time and one for the existing 'High School', with references from each to the other.
Or, indeed, us having those articles. If you have suitable sources then create the articles. If you need a hand doing that feel free to ask. I, honestly, don't have the time or particular interest in Diss to do so just now - and doubt I could find the sources. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:30, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Headteacher Suspension - Autumn 2010[edit]

As of 2010-12-01 I can only find references to the headteacher being suspended and Cherry Crowley being in place as an interim HT. All of the news references, from several media sources, point to this. None, at present, point to reinstatement - including from the school. It may be true that she has been reinstated - I have no COI issues at all with the school. If it is, then we need to edit the paragraph to show this for now, and find some form of source, even if it's from NCC or the school, to support the story.

Given what's happened at Hamonds - and the national press story which ran in the Guardian featuring the situation there and the general situation with head teacher suspensions - I think it's clearly notable. Either that or we accept that school articles will simply be promotional in nature and drop any pretense about NPOV. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:52, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If she has been reinstated *today* then let's wait till we can show it from some form of source. And take real care about COI issues - this might suggest you have a close connection with the school in which case you need to be very careful about the tone of editing. OK. re: suggestion that this part is "not appropriate to an encyclopedic entry" - 4 reliable third party sources suggest to me it is (and that, to be honest, is scratching the surface - we could both find more) Blue Square Thing (talk) 23:41, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
re: suggestion that... "You will notice the School's own website makes no mention of it" - yes, it does. News section, page 4 of the current newsletter (October 2010) specifically mentions the appointment of Cherry Crowley as interim headteacher. See Diss High School Newsletter - screenshot available at screenshot. You may wish to review the edits. I'll give you the opportunity to respond via talk pages before I move this on.
