Although Roy Orbison had recorded the song in 1963, it is Reeves' version of "Distant Drums" which has endured over the years. Is this not very much a point of view? Might it not be better to say simply ...it is Reeves' version that has had greater commercial success .... In that way one avoids making any judgements about the relative merits of either version.
