Hello btphelps,

We are trying to update the Wikipedia page for our client, Douwe Blumberg at his request and we have made the updates three times but the page keeps reverting to the past, old, inaccurate information. Can you please tell me how to save the changes and make them stay?

Hi Cherry, thanks for contacting me. Contributing to Wikipedia unfortunately requires a little attention to detail and knowledge of wiki markup. Your changes have apparently been reverted for several reasons.
  • They don't meet Wikipedia standards for the quality of the content.
  • Biographies of living persons must meet a high standard as described here, specifically a "high degree of sensitivity, and must adhere strictly to all applicable laws in the United States, to this policy, and to Wikipedia's three core content policies:"
  • The edits violate Wikimedia standards. For example
  • The image you uploaded lacks the necessary copyright information and is likely to be deleted soon. You need to add an appropriate license.
  • Your edit is breaking the Wikipedia markup syntax:
  • Shows the broken "edit source" link alongside each heading as plaintext "[[[edit]]]"
  • Original edit:
  • He is married to Marci Blumberg and between them they have four daughters.<ref name=auge/>
  • After your edit:
  • He is married to Marci Blumberg and between them they have four daughters.[[Douwe Blumberg#cite note-auge-5|[5]]]
  • You've removed several instances of sourced content without explanation, and in some instances replaced it or added new content that is unsourced:
  • Beginning "A group of Wall Street bankers..." and replaced it with an unsourced statement, "In 2004, the decision was made to focus primarily...". Unfortunately, the replacement text is not only unsourced but also uses passive tense -- who made the decision?
  • Another instance: "Hailed as “America’s finest sculptor” by Vice President Joe Biden..." Unsourced.
  • Third instance: "After finishing his education he became a professional..." Sourced content removed without explanation.
  • Fourth instance: "Grandson of a holocaust victim, Douwe Blumberg was born and in Los Angeles of two amateur artists..." Unsourced.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, as editor @Theroadislong: noted on your account talk page, you are a representative of Douwe Blumberg. As noted there, editors with a potential conflict of interest are asked to:
  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
If you'd like further assistance, feel free to contact me. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 21:30, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
