Largest Overseas development assistance recipient[edit]

No. Absurd, though the barely literate Al Ahram article does imply that. $3.5 billion over 4-5 years i nothing for Japan in that time period. I'm not convinced that even that raw number is accurate, but the claim that made Egypt number 1 is absurd. That time period includes the Asian financial crisis that scared the bejesus out of Japan. It led them to give in grants in 1997 to individual countries in a single year far in access of that 4-5 year total.[1]. Outstanding loan commitments to Indonesian alone at year end 1998 was $3 billion (that ignores grants, loan guarantees and other forms of aid and that's as of that point in time.) [2]. Again, Egypt was not the largest recipient of ODA from japan between 1998-2002.Bali ultimate (talk) 22:18, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
