Is the song really anti-war?
[edit]I'm not sure calling the song anti-war is compatible with [McCluskey] hoped the track "conveyed an ambivalence about whether it was the right or the wrong thing to do".
The anti-war bit is completely unsourced as well, I believe. 194.80.232.68 (talk) 09:32, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- "Anti-war" is now well-referenced. It was also described as such in an official press release for OMD's 40th anniversary re-release of the single.[1] Paulie302 (talk) 22:57, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
No. 1 hit in Italy?
[edit]The previous no. 1 chart position given in this article, has been replaced with a no. 2 position based on an alternate data collector. However, that "Enola Gay" was a no. 1 hit in Italy is well-documented.[2][3][4][5] I have re-added the previous no. 1 placing, so we now have two Italian chart positions given until we can reach some kind of consensus here (if necessary). Thanks. Paulie302 (talk) 12:19, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- The Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana (FIMI) did not exist until the 1990s, so that chart position can't be kept. However, until 1997, there was no official singles chart in Italy; instead there are three charts that are seen as authoritative for this period: Musica e dischi, TV Sorrisi e Canzoni and RAI. "Enola Gay" peaked at number 2 on M&D and number 1 on the other two (I will add these two peaks to the chart table). The song also topped the Italian chart published in Billboard, credited to Germano Ruscitto, who I believe was the Italian editor for Billboard (I'm not sure how reliable this chart actually is though). bass guitar technique?
[edit]I'd be interested to know why McCluskey in the video is playing bass guitar as if it were a rhythm guitar, and whatever sound is made by this doesn't seem to have made it onto the recording? 146.199.236.30 (talk) 12:44, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- McCluskey's bass guitar was a left-handed one picked up second-hand that he used to play upside down. Visual padding probably. 198.140.62.1 (talk) 14:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
