POV?

[edit]
This novel was very popular in the Soviet Union and was the top best seller and compulsory reading there, and was seen as ideologically useful;

-- is the last thing really important for the subject? In that case should we also add “The novel was not so popular in the United States because it was not considered ideologically useful?” ;-)

I mean, don't look for ideology where it doesn't belong. This is a brilliant novel that doesn't need any state controlled advertising to be loved. It is ridiculous to see DIY “soviet union experts” who have one answer ready for all possible questions. 213.131.7.83 (talk) 19:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

Has anyone speculated whether the Italian revolutionary Errico Malatesta could be an influence on The Gadfly - Stepniak being a mutual acquaintance. Jackiespeel (talk) 15:55, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translator of Chopin's letters

[edit]

We make no mention that her 1931 editing and translation of Frédéric Chopin's letters, collected by Henryk Opieński, is still the standard reference source for this material (it's listed as a source in our Chopin article). So, how did she become so fluent in Polish to be able to tackle this challenge? Her husband was Polish, as was Opieński, but we say nothing about any fluency she may have acquired through these associations, or through any other study. So, did they have a hand in the translating but she got all the credit? -- ♬ Jack of Oz[your turn] 20:24, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
