Wasn't there a genesis game called "ex-mutants"?

Yes. it was based on the later Malibu version of the series. I've never played but heard it was not very good.

Wasn't there a follow-up called "New Humans"?

Yes. It was about a group WW3 survivors who spent 30 years in suspended animation before awakening in the post-war future.
