Whale stranding section[edit]

As part of substantial improvements to this article, I have completely replaced the previous content about whale strandings and presented information in a list. However, this is incomplete. There are papers referencing to a New Zealand Whale Stranding Record (NZWSR) [1], but full data does not appear to be published. If full data becomes available, the initial list could possibly be migrated to a new list article.Marshelec (talk) 09:14, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shipwrecks section[edit]

A brief search on Papers Past indicates a large number of groundings and wrecks on Farewell Spit, in the days of sailing cargo ships. This topic may best be treated as another list, as a further improvement to this article.Marshelec (talk) 09:38, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lighthouse section[edit]

This warrants an article of its own, just like many other New Zealand lighthouses already covered. A brief search indicates lots of sources, including accounts of life at this remote and challenging location. Also, early newspaper reports on Papers Past contain lots of reports from Farewwell Spit by telegram on weather and sightings of vessels.
