MP Thomas Blackborne Thoroton Hildyard of Flintham[edit]

Thomas Blackborne Thoroton Hildyard (1821-1888), the son of Col. Hildyard of Flintham Hall, was a longtime Conservative Member of Parliament for South Nottinghamshire.[1] He preceded Sydney Pierrepont, 3rd Earl Manvers as member for South Nottinghamshire. Blackburn was later re-elected in 1866, when he served almost 20 years until his retirement in 1885. But because Hildyard's name was misspelled in the Hansard records of Parliament, his name shows up incorrectly on wikipedia as 'Thomas Blackburne Thornton-HIldyard." And so the wikipedia records reflect the initial inaccurate spelling. The University of Nottingham has a biographical sketch of MP Hildyard on their website with the name spelled correctly.[2] I don't know how one goes about correctly the misspelling in the wikipedia Parliament template, but I did want to point out the error. (I also wanted to write an entry on him, but hesitated to do so before the spelling mix-up was corrected.) The footnote content below is not really on topic for Flintham. Thomas Thoroton (British Army officer) should have an article, since he was an MP. When it is created, this content can be placed there. Charles Matthews (talk) 08:59, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Another advisor to Lord Manners for many years was Levett Blackborne of Lincoln's Inn, a London barrister who was stepbrother to Col. Thoroton Hildyard.[3] "But the central figure in the Granby–Rutland family group," according to the Florida Historical Quarterly, "was Thomas Thoroton, who had married an illegitimate daughter of the Duke of Rutland and served him as his principal agent. Although Thoroton received no order in council for land in East Florida, he was a member of the East Florida Society and also of the Nova Scotia Society of London as well. Thoroton was the link between the East Florida and Nova Scotia speculators, particularly after Richard Oswald and James Grant decided to give up their Nova Scotia interests and concentrate on Florida.""Archived copy".
