Translation from Italian article[edit]

Hi, JackkBrown,

I'm following up your recent query on the Help Desk. I think you are wondering whether a {{Expand Italian}} might be needed. I am personally very against these tags: I find them very intrusive; they often take up more space than the entire article; and in any case there is often little more of any substance in the original language article.

You are correct that the Italian article it:Gianni Nazzaro has more detail but has almost the same number of refs as the English one. However, it does have a Bibliography section which may have better sources than those already cited. One big problem for an editor wishing to translate from another language WP is that there are often not nearly enough decent refs to qualify for an English WP article. It may be possible for the translating editor to find some more reliable sources, but these will tend to be in Italian and the prospect of digging out this extra info may well put many editors off.

In my opinion (although some of our articles have fairly poor reffing) English Wikipedia tends to have the very best references of all WP projects. The German, Italian and French WPs are considerably less demanding, although French WP has been making a big effort recently. Having said that, Nazzarro had a great voice and every word he sang was audible - for example Questo si che è amore. I would just tend to let it go. Editors tend to do what they want, and very few tend to respond favourably to {Expand} tags, many of which have been there for many years without result.
