Geography, population and politics[edit]

Content now under Geography, population and politics seems a bit 'out of focus' for a constituency article. Is it about a burgh '500 years older than Glasgow', a Westminster constituency created in 1918 (and now abolished - or replaced by a new constituency)? A Scottish Parliament constituency created in 1999? Or what? If I had more local knowledge of the area I might be able to make more sense of this content. As it is the content seems more confusing than helpful. Laurel Bush 12:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]

  • Well it helps give context. It tells us that Rutherglen is not always considered part of Glasgow, despite the constituency name. Adds a bit of political history to the article. Catchpole 16:35, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boundaries[edit]

I note removal of reference to Renfrewshire. The Govan Holyrood constituency was created in 1999 with the boundaries of the Govan Westminster constituency. In 1999, and until 2005 (when the Westminster constituency was replaced with new constituencies), the Westminster constituency did include part of Renfrewhire, and, at present, the Holyrood constituency is unchanged, retaining the boundaries it had when created. See The 5th Periodical Report of the Boundary Commission for Scotland, which details 2005 changes to boundaries of Westminster constituencies, and shows pre 2005 Glasgow Govan covering part of Renfrewshire.
