Mountain Climbing Accident - no mention??

[edit]

Why did this page not mention what is probably the defining moment of his life - the mountain climbing accident that crushed his skull and face? Makes the Coe feud look like trivia... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.143.166.160 (talk) 23:25, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's mentioned... Very clearly his evolving style caused him to fall off a mountain cliff: Here's what the article currently states, "Williams began his career imitating his famed father and his style gradually evolved until he was involved in a near fatal fall off the side of a mountain." Yes. You read that correctly, "his style gradually evolved until he was involved in a near fatal fall." It's a cause-and-effect relationship. His style caused him to fall. Come on ya'll, no mention of his fued with David Allan Coe and how Coe accused Hank, Jr. of selling out and not upholding his fathers "Family Tradition"?

What feud with DAC? I've always heard that they were good friends. I think you need to re-check what you are saying. Alakey2010 Thursday, May 04, 2006 4:34 PM.
I've never heard of any feud with Coe either. I've always heard that they've been pretty good friends. If I'm not mistaken, Coe wrote and recorded a sort of tribute song to Hank called "Hank Williams Jr. Junior." One of the songs most memorable lines involves Coe not calling "Hank Williams Jr. Junior anymore" signaling that he respected Hank, his music, and his musical direction.Odin's Beard 00:00, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure that that is referring to Hank Williams, Jr's son Hank Williams III who did an album with David Allan Coe.
About the song, considering it has the words "Ten years later young Bocephus busted through the door, and I just can`t call Hank Williams Jr Jr anymore" with that I assumed it was Hank Jr and not Hank III as Bocephus is Hank Jr's name. DarkMithras —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.100.246.254 (talk) 11:04, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
DAC is obviously talking about Hank, Jr. here because of the Bocephus reference. The reference to ten years later is referring to the fact that Hank Jr. had met Elvis when he (Hank Jr.) was just a kid. The reference to "busting through the door" is simply saying that Bocephus was finally making a name for himself that put him on par with someone like Elvis, and given that it's hard to call someone "junior" as a mild jab or pejorative anymore. In other words he has earned DAC's respect. The song also makes the point that Bocephus is now almost 6 foot 4 inches tall and 200 pounds, so it's hard to call someone that big junior as well. --Georgia peach lover (talk) 06:33, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Early Life & Career?

[edit]

It says "and that his identical to those of Hank Williams" can someone tell me what that means in english?

It says after "some success" in the 1980s. This is a gross understatement. Hank Williams Jr. sold millions of albums and won scores of industry awards in the 1980s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.160.217.121 (talk) 15:42, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And below that..."A Change in Appearance and Musical Direction" it states "The beard, hat, and sunglasses have since become his signature look, and he is rarely seen without them. In 1980, he appeared on the PBS show Austin City Limits during Season 5, along with The Shake Russell-Dana Cooper Band."

These two sentences are just awkward together. It's like "So what?" Was this TV show his first appearance after the fall? Did he appear WITHOUT his beard, hat, and/or sunglasses? What is so special about THAT PARTICULAR TV appearance? If someone knows, please expound. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FiggazWithAttitude (talkcontribs) 14:23, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RIAA reference failure

[edit]

The reference links are all the same - when the RIAA webpage has to post data to query its database (which is not included in the link) a hyperlink is not useful. This should be fixed. I would fix it, but I'm not sure what should be done. Link all to the RIAA search page?

MrHungryMonkey 04:47, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure what can be done about it either. I went to the searchable database on the RIAA website a little while ago and all the listings various RIAA certifications are accurate. Aside from possible fan websites, which can often be unreliable due to personal bias, I don't know where else his listings of RIAA certifications can be found.Odin's Beard 23:40, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1980s Young Country

[edit]

Just thought it would be interesting to mention a couple of his colaborations with the New Country crowd between his peak in the 80's and the new generation of country artists that are refered to ... when he recorded with many of them such as Highway 101, Marty Stuart, Keith Whitley, Steve Earl .. on "Young Country".

Mind you, it was not long after that "If the South Would a Won" came out and I was working in Country Radio at the time at a major station in Canada, mind you, that was not apt to play it, I'm sure that was near the beginning of his slide for a while and wonder if that was a coincidence? Just wondering if there's any facts on that or research worth metioning.

Superstar?

[edit]

The use of this seems non-NPOV, not to mention that this is the only place I have seen Hank Williams Jr described as such. Buster 20:54, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The timeline section midway down reverted to a first person rant, involving accusations of racism and "not being a true christian" Not exactly what belongs in an encyclopedia. I just deleted the entire offending section. Personal views don't have any place in the encyclopedia. Gun Enthusiast

[edit]

Williams is an avid gun enthusiast and has a very large collection of Civil War era weapons, including a number of cannons. Perhaps something could be included in the article about this? At the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee there is an interesting 20 minute interview in which Williams talks about the collection, including funny anecdotes about him and other country music stars (apparently Johnny Cash loved shooting the cannons). It appears that he is very fond of American history, and I think this aspect of his life should be included, or at least mentioned in the article. He has made a number of important contributions to our understanding of Civil War history through his work in the field.

Personal Life?

I expanded on that we do not know what he meant. The comment can be interpreted many ways, so we should not speculate on a single meaning. Unfortunately as ambiguous as the comment was, people are going to assume it meant different things. But for Wikipedia to remain neutral, as it must, we should not subscribe to a single meaning until we have proof. --MahaPanta (talk) 05:18, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Case in point: "On October 3, 2011, Hank Williams made a total ass of himself and scourged his father's name by comparing then President of the United States Barack Obama to a Nazi, subsequently being pulled from his regular Monday Night Football gig."
That is unacceptable here. We do not yet know if he was comparing either person to Hitler, or just saying that he though Obama and Boehner playing golf together is as likely as Hitler and Netanyahu playing golf together. --MahaPanta (talk) 05:27, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This article needs to remain neutral and factual. The previous edit makes it sound like Obama is no longer president. Then someone added this: 'On October 4th, 2011, he made a claim that likened President Obama with Adolf Hitler. He then recanted this however, and apologized for his silly behaviour, citing that he had "kissed 2 many damb boiz this mornin'."'. Even the date is wrong, it happened on the 3rd. --MahaPanta (talk) 05:33, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
there are many media outlets, unfortunately, that have made the bogus and politcally biased claim he compared Obama to Hitler. The associated press among them. Perhaps more importantly ESPN has also mentioned this very same thing, "that he compared Hitler to Obama". At some point it may be required to address them and their claims, as assumptive and biased as they appear to be, given the original statements do no such thing.66.190.31.229 (talk) 06:30, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He didn't say which was like which. He could have been comparing Obama to Netanyahu. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:34, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He wasn't comparing either person to Hitler. He was comparing the two people playing golf together to Hitler and Netanyahu playing golf, i.e. an odd couple. This is painfully clear. If an article is going to be used to log tabloid-tier attacks, it should at least be pointed out when accusations are factually wrong. I would change the corresponding part of the article to "Later, anchor Gretchen Carlson wrongly proclaimed...". But then, if the proclamation is wrong, why even mention it? 2001:480:91:3304:0:0:0:556 (talk) 14:26, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fox and Friends

[edit]

The whole 2011 Fox and Friends interview section is too long. Now its current and all over the news but in a few months its not going to matter and can/should be condensed into a few sentences. Thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.226.213.135 (talk) 00:21, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's probably smart. Or, there should be a section on the use of "All My Friends..." as the MNF theme starting in 1991, ending with last week's pulling of the song? --Mosmof (talk) 02:55, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

[edit]

How is it that when I looked him up on line, it has the following:

Hank Williams Jr.

American country singer-songwriter and musician

The son of country music's greatest name, and a superstar in his own right by painting himself as a rowdy redneck country-rocker in the '70s... en.wikipedia.org

Born: May 26, 1949 (age 71), Shreveport Spouse: Mary Jane Thomas (m. 1990-present), Becky White (m. 1977-1983), Gwen Yeargain Children: Hank Williams III, Holly Williams, Hilary Williams Parents: Hank Williams Net worth: $45 million (celebritynetworth.com) Active from: 1957 Genre: Country, Country-Rock, Outlaw Country, Pop/Rock, Southern Rock, Traditional Country, Urban Cowboy

Yet, when I go to the actual wiki page for him, none of that is there? Also, word is going around that he had a 27 year old daughter named Katherine Williams-Dunning who was killed yesterday in an automobile accident. Therefore, the wikipedia article needs to be updated and whatever else needs done involving a person involved in a recent event such as this.

Newest Marriage

[edit]

I don't really follow pop culture, and I don't follow country singers at all (the only reason I'm here is looking up Hank Jr. is as a result of being on an 'old songs' kick). Therefore, this sentence doesn't tell me anything more than 'he married someone named Brandi': "On September 9, 2023, Williams married Brandi"

I have a cousin named Brandi, but I really doubt that's who he married. Brandi who? Is this some sort of celebrity who is only known by one name but, somehow, doesn't show up on Google that way and isn't worthy of being linked to a Wikipedia page?

Maybe, just maybe, there should be at least a little more context here. Dstar3k (talk) 18:41, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
