Year of marriage[edit]

I am puzzled by the difference between the two dates. In early 1458 Margaret was 14 and had already been a widow for over a year. Henry would have been in his early thirties and as far as I know this was his first marriage. What would Margaret have been doing if she had not married again until 1462? And what was Henry doing during those four years? Does anyone else have any better information than I have?

The more sources I consult, the more different dates I find for the marriage. I have also found alternative dates for the death of Henry and for Margaret's subsequent marriage to Thomas Stanley!

I have now got hold of a copy of Jones & Underwood and I find that they have been misquoted. So it now looks as though 1458 is the most likely year.

Name[edit]

I question the assertion that "he is known commonly as Henry de Stafford". I have found no reference to this name for him. The only person I have seen referred to as Henry de Stafford is his nephew Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham, who happened to be the son of a different Margaret Beaufort and is sometimes confused with his uncle. Could we please have some clarification? And possibly a reference or two? I had difficulty deciding how to refer succinctly to this Henry (hence the "Sir"), but I would suggest his dates in brackets. Well, I have had no reaction to the above, and so I am going to put things back more or less as they were. LynwoodF (talk) 09:38, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
