The current article second paragraph 6th sentence states "The storm has caused at least $50 billion (2021 USD) in damages". This is unknown at this time as total damage has not been assessed. This number comes from a single AP report that cites an anonymous private firm's estimate of the damages. That sentence should be reworded to indicate that number is merely a possible estimate and not a known fact.

"A current estimate shows the storm may have caused at least $50 billion (2021 USD) in damages, of which $15 billion was in insured losses in Louisiana, potentially making Ida the sixth-costliest tropical cyclone on record."

 Not done Thank you for your query. I understand your concern, but AP News is a reliable source (WP:RSP) and the place they got the estimate from seems to be as well. There are other sources from reputable sources suggesting that the damage exceeds $50 billion. See https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hurricane-ida-damage-80-billion-accuweather-estimates/ and https://www.inquirer.com/business/ida-storm-damage-costs-philadelphia-pennsylvania-new-jersey-20210903.html. I believe it would be appropriate to adjust the number upward as the original number was based off one reliable source and there are multiple reliable sources supporting an upward adjustment. Hello, everyone. This is just a heads-up that we have two drafts currently under construction for Hurricane Ida's impacts in the United States. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help work on these drafts. These drafts will be published when they are ready. No further drafts are planned at this time. I notice that the Louisiana one has basically nothing in it. Also, it also affected areas between the two areas so possibly merging the two to Effects of Hurricane Ida? PlanetsForLife 02:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

No, because once those two drafts are done, they will be kind of long. And if the completed drafts are combined, then they will be too long (definitely over the readable prose size limit). This is why we decided to make two impacts articles for the US. At this time, we do not anticipate needing more subarticles, so we are sticking with two drafts. Factoids going to require thorough cleanup at some point

As users were indiscriminately adding FACTOIDS based on news articles, we had people climbing onto rooftops a la Katrina in the Aftermath section. Those unfamiliar with Louisiana or New Orleans just assumed that the vague news reports applied to areas not mentioned in the source article. I moved some to their appropriate sections and edited others to clarify what the SOURCES were actually reporting. In a fluid situation, news reports are not the best source for historical fact, so I expect that many of the factoids will either be edited or deleted from the article in due course. The "deaths reports" are still scattered about, so perhaps they should all be collected into the Aftermath section eventually. Dfoofnik (talk) 09:48, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Description of deaths in lead

The description of deaths in the lead is confusing. It goes from saying the total number to saying the numbers from the two involved countries (U.S. and Venezuela) followed by the number of deaths in each U.S. state then to the number of indirect deaths while including the Venezuela death toll again before finally describing some of the indirect U.S. deaths. GIF adding

I would like to add a GIF with a tornado warning for Philadelphia, and the remnants of Ida hitting Massachusetts, and the final flash flood warning for Hartford-Worcester area. The tornado warning for Philadelphia was there origianally there, and I would like to add a similar one. Do I have permission to add a GIF? Severestorm28 (talk) 20:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

@Severestorm28: You can always be bold and add the image; permission is not an issue. I don't think adding the gif is advisable, however, since we already have a radar animation with tornado and flash flood warnings (including Philadelphia), and adding another would make the impact section rather crowded.
