The Higher National Certificate contradiction[edit]

There appears to be a contradiction in the statements regarding Lavery's educational attainments. One one hand we're told he HAS an HNC in Mining, yet a quote from him states he was BARRED by NCB management from completing this. In terms of the latter statement, this seems to fly in the face of commonsense. Why would an employer do this?

So the question is - what educational qualifications does Lavery actually hold? Did he leave school with, or later attain sufficient GCSEs to start an ONC course of two years, followed by a further two years studying for the HNC.

Member of Parliament[edit]

I would like to know why some people have n issue with Lavery brining forth the 10 minute rule bill with regards to the bedroom tax? It remains a heated issue and at the time was a very important act within Parliament. Hierachy2015 (talk) 11:04, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is undue importance being placed on this. Text about it being "much hated" is unhelpful -- there are references out there that support the bedroom tax. The discussion of any details about whether it is hated, and what happened during the debate should be on the wiki page about the Bedroom Tax itself, not here. If we want to include more details it would be helpful to mention what happened after the vote -- I am not aware that Lavery has been able to get this into law?Dingowasher (talk) 11:17, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is also clear some user's seem to have an objection with regards to Lavery's INVOLVEMENT in the House of Commons. As you can find all his spoken material, which clearly shows he "regularly" speaks in the commons. It seems perfectly legitimate however for user's to believe tabloid references are more trust worthy than a parliamentary website? Hierachy2015 (talk) 11:04, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The source does not state whether Lavery makes more or less regular statements in the Commons than the average MP.Dingowasher (talk) 11:17, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Politically motivated edits[edit]

I note that this article has been heavily edited by two Single Purpose Accounts, one of which shares a name with the individual that updates the blog on Ian Lavery's personal website... Whilst your intentions may be to improve the quality of the article and some of the material removed may have been inappropriate, I suggest that because of the obvious conflict of interest you discuss all proposed edits here.

I particularly suggest you refrain from threatening other users with bans on their talk page... This sort of behaviour can backfire

Dtellett (talk) 10:04, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, and the second single purpose account was created the day after the first account was revealed to share a name with Lavery's blog manager.Dingowasher (talk) 18:48, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Use of tabloids[edit]

According to WP:Suggested_sources#Current_news one should "generally avoid British tabloids such as the Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Mirror and The Sun." Can we stick with stories from any of the other newspapers -except the Morning Star? JRPG (talk) 22:07, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2011 Guardian article on PMQ's re Mark Britnell and NHS reforms.[edit]

I struggled to recognize the summary from the Guardian article. I'm about to replace it with a wp:NPOV version omitting the wp:OR reference to Lavery having got the name wrong. I'll also put it the parliament section as it isn't controversial.

Prime Minister's Questions on 19 March 2015[edit]

The two line sentence showing Lavery's PMQ and Cameron's response can't remain as it is misleading. Both the details in the question and the response were factually correct but both Cameron and Lavery knew that a claimant coming off the dole does not mean they have a job. A WP:RS would have explained the discrepancy. I've found a comment from Lavery which references sanctioning claimants though this again is not from the best of sources. I'll add it and use wp:BRD

NUM Northumberland Accusations[edit]

NUM Northumberland Area seem to have some serious issues regarding money that went to Mr Lavery.

The organisation loaned money for the general secretary to buy a house and then wrote it off (why?). He then sold part of his house to the union and bought it back cheaper.

He had a large redundancy payment, but he had decided to leave to become an MP and doesn't seem to have been made redundant.

I think the page should include these financial accusations, as they have finally reached some prominence in mainstream news.

You are perfectly free to develop the passage yourself, although I would suggest you create a Wikipedia account first. It could be more anonymous than an IP address. Philip Cross (talk) 09:50, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like the information was being added while i was suggesting it here. Wikipedia is fast! I may have a Wikipedia account from when I donated in the past. I'll look through old emails. Thanks anyway! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.89.199.136 (talk) 04:24, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
