Did you know... that the John R. Oughton House was used to house patients from the Keeley Institute, where over 400,000 people were treated for alcoholism with injections of "bichloride of gold" from 1879 to 1930?

Poisonous[edit]

Not sure, their exact makeup was apparently never determined, at least that's what I have found so far. I think the Time Magazine piece mentions that the institute kept no records of their patients after they left. You would think they were, but who knows, a lot of people had them so surely it will turn up with more research if it is true. IvoShandor 12:44, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The thought has just struck me; alcoholics obviously are more likely to die than normal due to their alcoholism. I wonder - if deaths were occurring due to the injections, that they were attributed to alcoholism, and no one thought twice about the injections. Toby Douglass 18:23, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
