Current event tag[edit]

How long does a current event tag have to stay up on an article before it's no longer considered a current event? I think he's pretty much out of the news now, so if no one objects within the next few days, I suggest we remove it. --ScreaminEagle 01:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

awards[edit]

Something like that would be exceptionally difficult to do. Some of the awards he received are fairly standard and are awarded either for breathing and/or performing your duties as expected, or are awarded for simply doing an exceptional job in your field. You don't have to be a hero, nor do you have to seen X number of patients to get what he received. While the certificates that go along with each award try to single out something the person has done that was good, most award summaries sound much the same from what I've witnessed myself. The only people who would know exactly why he was awarded those ribbons specifically would be the U.S. Army and Kiley himself; the awards would be in his service record, which as far as I know, is not a public record. Retirement and demotion[edit]

There are some problems with this new section.

The first section doesn't belong on this page but should be moved (as it has been in the past) to the Walter Reed Controversy page. This is a very small portion of that event and doesn't belong on this page. It should be included on the Walter Reed page, along with all of the other information about this event, and not what one person said about the Surgeon General.

The next paragraph does not quote a source, is not factual,and should be removed:

On March 2, 2007, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates fired Harvey, removed Kiley from his post at Walter Reed, and ordered the Army to get an acceptable new commander in place. Major General Eric B. Schoomaker was given command of Walter Reed later that day.

And the next paragraph is wrong too - he wasn't demoted, he reverted to his two star rank per the Army policy because he was not in the 3 star job long enough to keep the third star. Because he put in his request to retire before three years, he automatically reverted to two stars when he did actually retire. There's a really good wiki page about how this works.

The last paragraph, while sourced, is one-sided and does not add value to this page. Again, it belongs on the Walter Reed page rather than here.
