Langer: A derogatory word widely used in parts of Ireland, especially cork. A Langer is typically a male who will, under no circumstances do no man, no favour. The insult derives from the sentiment expressed by members of a cork battalion, serving under the British crown, towards the native langur monkey of India, which is widely known for its immensely annoying, if not quite clever behavior. The word Langer has become more acceptable in recent times, especially following the popularity of "The Langer Song" in the Irish charts, a song which allegedly refers to Mick McCarthy.
