Heckel reference[edit]

The Google Books result here has a good reference summarising everything that's known about her and where it's sourced. Only trouble is, I can't understand the citation abbreviations. Can anyone help? Tearlach 23:29, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

in-world[edit]

Fire From Heaven is historical fiction, not history. It is very good historical fiction, from an expert with extensive knowledge, and is I think generally considered to be reasonably accurate with respect to the major events, but dialog is of course always invented, and details selected for the story--indeed Renault commented for this particular book that she deliberately left out some of the very large number of conspiracies for the sake of clarity and believability.

I will confess that her books did very nicely for me in an Ancient History course, but I'd not rely on them for details in an encyclopedia. For getting the atmosphere, they're unbeatable, and a great place to start DGG 23:52, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
