Feedback[edit]

Hi, my name's Daphne and I'm reviewing this article for my Behavioral Ecology class! I think you've done great gathering information on the Tropical Hover Wasp. I've contributed a section on "Kin Recognition and Discrimination" under kin selection to further your research. I found this information interesting and feel that it furthers the article to give everyone a better understanding of your species. While it's not categorized directly under behavior, I think it could give more context to why the wasps will sometimes exhibit aggressive behaviors and the biological basis behind their actions.

For the future, maybe more information could be added to further develop the Behavior category. Specifically, the means of communication for this species would be informative or even describe the mating behavior of this wasp. Extensions into human importance might also be a useful contribution to see how these wasp coexist with the human population; do they contribute anything from an agricultural point of view for instance?

Hope my feedback helps! Good job on your article! Daphne Deng (talk) 9:46, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Some suggestions[edit]

I'm a fan of the structure of this article. The fact that you have a number of good subsections under different sections provides the reader with various information pertaining to the Tropical Hover Wasp. However, I think the article lacks depth-- you give a lot of great info, but not a lot of details. So I believe that adding more detailed overview on the species' behavioral activities would further strengthen your article. Speaking of the things that I have changed/ edited, I added more info to your overall description section. You only had one sentence saying that 'the species is an insect of the wasp family', which is a very broad statement, so I added more info and tried to give a more descriptive overview of your species. Also, I found some coding errors (I found some random symbols in the middle of texts), so I fixed that by editing your coding for referencing. Additionally, I deleted some sections that didn't have any info: For instance, you had a 'description' section, which had no info under it, and since you already had a 'Description and Identification' section, I just deleted it. There was also a empty section with no title or info pertaining to the section, so I got rid of that too. Lastly, there was one subsection on the content box that was bolded so I fixed that as well. Some comments and suggestions[edit]

This article concisely states the most important aspects of the Liostenogaster flavolineata. The individual sections are shorter than some other articles of similar classes of insects, and it would be helpful to receive more depth in each subject. More specifically, you could add details about where the males go when they leave the nest upon reaching adulthood, or you could discuss the behavioral theories and expert hypotheses which explain the gerontrocratic behavior in the hover wasp. Here is a link to an article which speaks more on the age-determined inheritance that your article mentions with regards to Liostenogaster flavolineata. http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00265-007-0355-9. Other questions I had when reading this article were a) what type of natural protection do the wasps seek when building nests? b) What is their diet? c) Are there any recorded interactions between these wasps and humans or other species? d) Where do they fall on the phylogenetic tree? e) Do other species of the Liostenogaster genus also display age-related inheritance patterns? As for changes, I made some minor edits to make the section capitalizations consistent so that only the first letter of the first word in the section is capitalized. Additional comments[edit]

The "floater" behavior of this wasp is really interesting, and you did a great job of explaining it. You provide a great overview of this species, but I think some of the behavioral sections could be developed a little bit further. I rewrote and expanded the lead section for your article in order to include more information about dominance hierarchy, and I added a link to Stenogastrinae. I also noticed that there were some capitalizations of the term "queen" in your article, which I have fixed. I rewrote the sections Taxonomy and phylogeny and Description and identification for clarity, and made sure that all family and genus names were italicized. I removed the section for Popularity, since there was only one sentence, and added that information to the lead section instead. I edited and reorganized the Colony cycle section. I rewrote the information for dominance hierarchy and edited the information about division of labor that was included as part of your Behavior section.
