Tax comment[edit]

Where does this sentence come from: "She is a member of the exclusive band of Irish artists who have a tax-free status in their native country." I added a fact tag. Artists may or may not avail of the income tax exemption, but there is an upper limit on earnings at any rate. That's quite an interesting fact mostly because I never knew that countries didn't tax people for being good artists. As for your question, I'll look into it and see if I can find anything on the statement. As for the notability of the statement, it seems notable I guess but I think it's only because of the reason I stated before. OlYellerTalktome 00:45, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Found a ref. After getting over my initial shock, determining the notability of this fact would probably depend on how many artists get this status in Ireland. The fact itself has gotten some news coverage so I guess that could make it notable. OlYellerTalktome 00:52, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I included as it would be notable to the international reader (as demonstrated above). There isn't a massive section on it; it's one sentence. Countries don't give tax exemptions to artists but Ireland does. :) I may do an article on it some day, if I do, it will be found in the DYK section of the Main Page! ;) --Candlewicke ST # :) 02:58, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Irish and the mention of tax-free status here struck me as very odd - before I saw this discussion I assumed it was soft vandalism and was going to delete the remark. The band of Irish artists with tax-free status is very much not exclusive. Anyone who applies with the remotest justification will be granted tax-free status. Mentioning it here is out of place and could be interpreted as a rather passive-aggressive remark, either on the validity of her artistry or even tax evasion. I agree with the above user 84.203.50.19 - tax exemption for artist registrants was fairly widespread amongst E.U. countries, I believe that it is still true of Holland, Luxemourg, and France. Relationship with Damien Rice[edit]

In the quoted lines "Hannigan is best known for having accompanied the highly successful singer-songwriter Damien Rice. Since leaving him, she has begun her own career with her debut album Sea Sew spawning the hit single "Lille", a Choice Music Prize nomination, two Meteor Music Awards nominations and praise from fellow musicians." This sentence structure is vague about the relationship. Was it professional or something other. It was more than professional, it was romantic. I have added the relevant interview with Damien Rice. Just hope it doesn't get reverted again.

SOme Notes that could improve article[edit]

I just have some things. 1. Future tense is used alot for describing events that have gone by i.e. Snow patrol support, meltdown event and co-presenting "the last splash" 2. It seems very bulky. Do we need all the information 3. Could we cut the commentary out of the awards section and just list the award nominations by adding a colum to say what the awards where rather then a specific section for each award? POV Lead tag[edit]

The lead reads more like an advert than a summary of the article. At present it contains primarily info about music reviews and her work with charities which is hardly an unbiased summary of her life as described in the rest of the article. Did these events happen?[edit]

  • She will play Meltdown in London in June 2010.[1] She will provide support for Snow Patrol at their Ward Park concert on 5 June 2010, a show that will be broadcast on radio and television.[2]
  • As of August 2010, Hannigan reported on her website that she had begun work on her second album.
  • She will co-present an edition of The Last Splash with Alison Curtis on Today FM on 13 December 2009.[3]

Fan POV tag[edit]

I have placed a Fan POV tag on the article as in many places it reads like a fan article instead of encyclopedic text. There are many POV adjectives and phrasings that are not neutral or objective and need to be amended. I will work on this but others are encouraged to help. Content Removed[edit]

  • Rice called her mobile phone on-stage in front of thousands of people at the final gig of that tour in Marlay Park, Dublin. He asked the crowd to shout "Lisa, we love you" and went on to dedicate the next song to her, hoping that she stayed on the line to listen. Evidently she did not. In his first interview for three years, Rice admitted that he and Lisa were romantically involved throughout the course of their professional relationship, and that he would now give up all his musical success to be with her again. However he notes that she has not spoken to him since they broke up in Munich.[1]

Fan POV tag[edit]

Her awards are mentioned in the body of the article, then again in prose in the Awards section and then a third time in the Awards charts. They should only be mentioned once. Also trivia about her tweets, that she helps the band carry the instruments etc. is not encyclopedic content.
