Merge Proposal[edit]

Discussion[edit]

Actually I think that List of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation cast members should be imported here to replace what we have and make it a list. The information here is beyond the call for a list page. -- Ipstenu (talkcontribs) 20:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: after reading what you said about the information in this article, I think that we should perhaps create a smaller article, of the type "Minor CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Characters" to keep biography info on the detectives, lab techs etc who do not have their own articles. Also, if we import the information here, we need to put character names before cast names in the tables, as on User:Ipstenu/List_of_CSI_Characters. Maybe just put the tables you created into the cast list format that I set up. Editus Reloaded 16:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • I think that's a good idea, Editus. Then we can link up all the minor chars to there. I'll play with that in my sandbox :) (I'm for giving this a week, since it's not a frequented page). -- Ipstenu (talkcontribs) 16:24, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I have completed the new Main/Recurring cast section for the possible merged article, see it here. Note especially the status info in small text e.g. manner of death, Sara trapped under a car wreck. Post comments here or on my talk page. Editus Reloaded 19:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Posting here to keep everyone in the loop. I like that page! My only suggestion is to make the comment under Sophia (Formerly CSI) small as well. Nicely done :) ETA: I mocked up a Minor characters page -- Ipstenu (talkcontribs) 19:58, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major 'n Minor[edit]

I'll see your mock-up, and raise you one created page! I've also added a little more info on the detectives and crime lab techs. This new article, however, raises the question: what is a minor character? Perhaps the best way to go about this is to ask: what is a major character? My proposals below

Major characters

  • Opening credits characters ("Main Characters" in other articles)
  • CSIs: Ecklie, possibly Keppler
  • Crime lab techs: Hodges, Archie, Mia, Bobby Dawson, Super Dave Phillips
  • Detectives/LVPD: Sam Vega, Ray O'Riley, possibly Cavaliere (not Det. Vartann, insufficient notable appearances to justify), Sheriff Rory Atwater
  • Bad guys: my current "Notable Villains and Serial Killers" table, maybe without Tammy Felton and Judge Cohen
  • Others: Lady Heather, Sam Braun, Lindsey, possibly Lily Flynn (Cath's mother)

Editus Reloaded 10:17, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think Tammy falls under bad guy. Stockholm Syndrome or not, she was a bad bad girl. Judge Cohen can go up under ... Judges and Lawyers. To answer the question at hand, a 'Major' character is someone who appears regularly, if not in most episodes (Super David the Backup Coroner, Bobby Dawson, Hodges, Archie) or who had significant airplay/plots about them (Vega, O'Riley, Atwater, Mobley, and Lockwood, among others). The three 'big' serial killers (Blue paint (both), Paul Milander, and Crazy Miniature Lady) for certain. Family/Friends I'd keep to Lindsey, Sam, Lady Heather and Eddie. Cath's mom is minor, having only been in two episodes and sort of ... a plot contrivance for Cath and Sam. I hesitate at saying a blanket '10 eps or more are important enough', since there are going to be exceptions, but it may be a good starting point. 10 eps + or a major role in an episodes. -- Ipstenu (talkcontribs) 13:32, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ipstenu, I have to disagree (I am a chronic sufferer of stubbornasamuleitis). I know Tammy is a "bad bad girl" but she's not as major as the other three serial killers (she only killed 1 person for definite, the other three are under the felony murder law - when someone dies during the commission of a felony, all the conspirators are liable). We can put her in minor characters though. I stick to my guns about Judge Cohen being in Villains, he only appears in the series as a blackmailing crook, not as a judge; I mean, should we put Paul Millander in a separate subheading: "notable manufacturers of Hallowe'en paraphernalia"? Oh, and he kills people too. But that's just a hobby he has. His mum would be so proud (until he stuck a knife in her neck).

Next point: appearing in many episodes does not justify notability e.g. Vartann and the two Sheriffs have appeared frequently, but they do not have any major plots about them. Ditto O'Riley. We could include Lockwood because he had a major episode (he kind of died!), Cavaliere for the same reason (when he forced a confession from a 12-year-old) and Vega because he has a more involved back-story. Maybe the way to decide is to select those characters is to say that if one could write a decent-sized article, say at least the length of Maxine Valera or David Hodges, about a character then they are major. Thoughts? Editus Reloaded 16:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing this, we seem to be in agreement over which Crime Lab techs should be in, and I concede over the family/Eddie Willows issue. I'm gonna bring those sections in and wipe their current info off this page. Editus Reloaded 18:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Poll[edit]

  • Following lack of feedback or discussion, I have merged in all relevant information; I will remove merge tags and set Cast Members as a redirect. Editus Reloaded 18:38, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Natalie Davis'/The Miniature Killer's status[edit]

The Miniature Killer's status is listed as "Deceased (Possibly suicidal by hanging)". That doesn't sound all that encyclopedic to me. As far as I can tell, it seems to list her status as something definitive (e.g: "Deceased") because she might be suicidal. Even if she is suicidal, it wouldn't neccesarilly mean that she actually has committed suicide yet. Unless she is shown to actually commit suicide, or a character or whatever states that she has committed suicide, isn't it then somewhat ambigious whether or not she is dead or alive? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.243.192.134 (talk) 10:24, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning about vandalism[edit]

There have been several false character additions lately. To be sure I suggest reverting unsourced character additions. Kotiwalo (talk) 19:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moving all guest stars to this section[edit]

The main page on all the CSI shows are getting filled with "Notable" guest stars who sometimes played a person killed off in the opening sequence and was not credited until the end of the show, if at all. I know any attempt at a guideline for notability will result in upset by fans of these (often times minor) actors. Even if it was determined the actor's name must appear in opening credits, there will be fans who refuse to follow a Wiki rule when it comes to somebody who was on Dawson's Creek or the Gossip Girls. So I think the guest stars section should be on the characters page. Anyone else agree or have an alternate idea that could help clean up the main CSI pages and perhaps have a shot at Good Article status? New Look Article[edit]

Hi, I've been adding new tables, pictures, and a short summary of the cast, I think it goes together very well to make an easy to read and aesthetically pleasing article. Most of the time I've been working on this without actually logging in, anyway, I would appreciate it if you have any problems with it to discuss it first instead of just reverting because it took me quite a while to complete it, thanks Jane Rizzoli (talk) 23:48, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Six degrees" lists of guest cast[edit]

i've just removed a series of subsections describing clusters of guest cast who appear together on other shows, and identifying the CSI episodes in which they appear. While I appreciate the work involved in compiling them, they're really just trivia/fancruft, and rather randomly assembled. For every one identified, there are probably three or four more no one's noticed yet, which raises the question as to why these shows in particular? And more importantly, what does any of it have to do with CSI when what's being documented is almost entirely coincidence. Sorry, but it all has to go. --Drmargi (talk) 17:41, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've Removed Sqweegel[edit]

The section that contained Sqweegel was clearly called "Recurring villains". It has been more than two full years since his first (and to date, only) appearance within the CSI universe. If he was a recurring villain, he would have had more than one appearance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.30.38.47 (talk) 08:19, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, granted, Sqweegel got away, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will come back. For example, there was a guy in the season 2 episode "Alter Boys" who got away, but he's not on this list either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.30.38.47 (talk) 10:31, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

At one time, we were lead to believe Sqweegel would return, thus the inclusion. Given it's now been two years, removing him certainly makes sense. --Drmargi (talk) 01:53, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of guest stars[edit]

Once again, I've removed the list of guest stars from the article. It seems to have been a rather arbitrary list of "who's who's" from the show's run, with no inclusion criteria other than someone's interest in an actor. Most notable is who's been on the show but not included; there appears to have been no effort made to be systematic about how or which guest stars are listed. Worse, many are fairly obscure, requiring length explanations (such as Milo Ventimigilia, the last added.) Some are fairly major actors but many more are "it" stars of the moment. Regardless, the list fails WP:INDISCRIMINATE, and has no place in the article. --Drmargi (talk) 01:49, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Detective[edit]

In Season 13 Episode 14, Exile, Alimi Ballard makes a guest appearance as a newly promoted detective, this should be added as a recurring cast for this season until he becomes a regular. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0050584/?ref_=sr_1 | Detective Kevin Crawford / Det.
