The source of this information is the irishrugby.ie website. This site does not list any players capped from October 1999 to present and these players will have to be added manually.

So far, 999 Irish rugby union players have represented the Irish Rugby Union National team. Those listed 1-20 played in the first game against England, whilst the most recent player for Ireland is Luke Fitzgerald- see http://www.irishrugby.ie/226_135.php. For other countries see List of All Blacks. This information is compiled from the information available in "Irish Rugby 1874–1999 — A History" - http://www.irishrugby.ie/history/css/arch_history.htm

Missing Information[edit]

Looks like we are missing Brian Smith, which is annoying - he comes in at 856 Sissco (talk) 09:38, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've now completed uploading all information to the table, but annoyingly I'm 6 players short of the total listed by the IRFU. They insist that Luke Fitzgerald is player 999 but I make him 988. Help!!! Sissco 23:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed a full review and am now 8 players short. I'm confident that these 8 players are in the period 1999 to present otherwise the IRFU have their stats wrong and Luke Fitzgerald is 991! Sissco 20:35, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another full review unearthed two more players who were incorrectly listed on the irishrugby archive. I am now 6 players shy and would appreciate any help identifying these. I have also restated Luke Fitzgerald as player 999 as I assume the official records are correct. Note, I do not include the two Newport players as having caps, if I included them I would only be 4 short. Sissco 21:43, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The information below (perhaps this will help) may go towards sorting your problem. Selbac 15:06, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Maybe List of Irish rugby union footballers would be better, in particular without the capitals on rugby union. Goldman07 11:03, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If the title specified players whom had represented Ireland (not just been Irish and played rugby). There can be disagreement on whether rugby should have a capital, but I think you are right. The title at the moment needs to be fixed anyway. The page should be moved, and I think the title List of Ireland national rugby union footballers makes sense. It is similar to the title of the national team (Ireland national rugby union team). - Shudda talk 11:10, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I chose Ireland instead of Irish is because of contention of the Irish / Northern Irish thing. I think Ireland is more neutral than Irish, maybe I am being paranoid. I'm thinking in particular of how Davy Tweed would think!Sissco 11:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No that makes sense to me. And as shudda said, List of Ireland national rugby union footballers would be better anyway. Goldman07 12:43, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback - I've changed the page title as suggested Sissco 20:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing information - perhaps this will help[edit]

McDaniel J. 12-Apr-1884 Cook H.G. 12-Apr-1884 Jordan C. 12-Apr-1884 Allen T.C. 7-Feb-1885 O'Brien B. 18-Feb-1893 Smith B.A. 18-Nov-1989 McKenna P. 3-Jun-2000

R.G. Warren appears twice on the published list.

The current order of the list is wrong for some (D.V. Hunter & J. Thompson - see match dates) and capable of debate for others, but perhaps getting the list correct is most important at this time.

3 players potentially could lay claim to the 1000th cap. The Newport players should not be included. Selbac 23:42, 7 August 2007 (UTC) If we take Wallace (provisional cap number 993) as a starting point. This becomes 992 when the R.G. Warren duplication is removed. It then becomes 991 after adjustment for no Cap No. 151 on the list. Adding 7 missing names - Wallace then becomes 991 + 7 = 998. Fitzgerald could then be 999, Heaslip 1000 and Ferris 1001 depending on how Cap Numbers should be allocated for new caps all starting in the same game. Selbac 14:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Currently Playing[edit]

Should we add some kind of indication that the player is still playing? Mark the player in bold or italics? It seems that denoting number of caps for players that are retired and players still playing should be different?-— Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.47.183.193 (talk) 10:47, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Include trophies won by player?[edit]

A suggested additional column?

I second this suggestion - limited to international trophies so e.g.

Name Number Opponent Date of debut Caps Triple Crown Grand Slam
Josh van der Flier 1 England 15/02/1999 55 4 2
