Help needed[edit]

The reason I'm here is because I reverted a sock's edit at the article, but I think the table he edited (the second one in the article) is now in even worse shape than it was before my revert. I intend to self-revert after posting here. The reality is the article is a mess and needs work, and it's not work that I have any interest in doing.

I looked at the last substantive edits to this Talk page, which are from 2014-15. Three experienced editors took an interest at the time: Diannaa, Bonadea and Sionk. I'm pinging you all in case you're still interested in improving the article. I do have some thoughts about the article in no particular order:

  • The article is barely sourced at all. In my view, there should be sources for every entry, maybe even a column for references.
  • I'm not sure why there needs to be two tables. There was only one table in the beginning.
  • Including people who are of Lebanese descent strikes me as problematic. For one thing, it creates the need for additional sourcing because you have to source the net worth and that the person is of Lebanese descent.
  • The "origin" column in the second table makes no sense. It will always be the same.
  • As noted earlier by one or more of you, there shouldn't be famililes, just individuals.
  • The comment before the second table that it is as of 2014 obviously means that no one is updating that year.
  • There should be instructions that say (1) only individuals, (2) only living persons, and (3) that the article should be updated annually. That last instruction is optional, just my opinion because it will make watching the article easier. My guess is that many editors will unfortunately update the article without updating the sources, thereby disrupting the article more frequently. Also, if you're going to update the table when you feel like it, maybe there shouldn't be a year for the entire table because I imagine many editors will just edit some of the entries, not all. In that case there would have to be a year column.
  • I don't know much about the technical aspects of tables, but the ranking in the second table should be automatic, not hard-coded, such that when you change the net worth, the table automatically ranks them - or perhaps eliminate the ranking column completely and just sort on the net worth column would be simpler.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:44, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I patrol this page to revert vandalism, which is usually the substitution of names. I occasionally update the first list as Forbes updates its content. In November 2016, I separated out the second list into its own section and marked it as unsourced. In January 2020, as no sources had been added, I removed that section, but was reverted by @Chris O' Hare: with the edit summary "The sources for this list are included in the respective wiki articles of the listed people". I feel there is little value in having the second list as it is not being maintained, and there is no way to know how comprehensive it is without a source.-gadfium 21:41, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
