Notable content for "notes"[edit]
There have been substantial edits recently surrounding the "notes" section of the table for each chapter. I am recommending that content relating to chapter status or chapter houses is notable for inclusion, and at this time I will be reincorporating that content. I can understand chapter-specific fundraising and charitable efforts being excluded, but I am also open to discussion on whether that content should also be reincorporated. - Agreed: I support inclusion within the notes field of short items about origin as a local, years of activity, "why" a chapter closed, and about restoration. These would follow the evolving standard of the Fraternity and Sorority Project. I also agree with your thought on excluding chapter-specific fundraising notes, as a general rule. Format updates[edit]
I've adjusted the formatting of chapter names to show active chapters, colonies and current expansion projects as bold, with dormant chapters and colonies listed in italics. This follows the standard for the Fraternities and Sororities Project. Next step should be to move reference items and notes without a specific citation to the EFN format. There are several examples scattered throughout. EFN's are thus reflected below the Notes subheader, and not within the References subheader. Where EFN items are used twice or multiple times, they should include a "name" field.
Next, the Installation Date column should be renamed "Dates", and the individual chapter fields should reflect periods of inactivity. Examples of how this is done include List of Delta Kappa Epsilon chapters and Pi Alpha Tau (unrelated examples). The DTS template should be used as an assist for adaptive readers: Rather than "just" the year, the list should include specific dates of activity using the {{dts|yyyy|mm|dd}} template (best for installation dates), or {{dts|yyyy}} or {{dts|yyyy|mm}} if the specific day is unknown. Periods of inactivity may thus be shown. See the Deke example.
Several of us work on these pages, but volunteers who are specifically interested in this list of Teke chapters are very welcome to assist. This will move page improvements along faster. You can find the dates of activity here: Baird's Manual Online Archive, document showing Teke chapter activity. Our standard is to list inactive periods and dates of closure, as well as dates of chartering. No need to list dates of colonization once a chapter is installed or re-installed.
Finally, once these steps are complete volunteers should determine just how much text should be allowed in the Notes field, as some of these are bloated. Those details may be better placed in an adjacent EFN. I see the value of some of these (as an interested reader, but not a Teke), but prefer that these fields avoid bloat. - I note all the recent updates you have accomplished, Jmnbqb. Solid work. Since we corresponded in the above thread earlier this summer, the stylistic model regarding use of EFN tags has evolved to a pragmatic solution: Where a reference has an outside link, it remains a reference. Where an item is an explanatory note, without a separate link, we've been moving these to EFNs. I also see you are using the word "Chapter", capitalized, within the formal name of a chapter in a note. I think it is certainly more readable to amend each of these notes to call out the chapter to which it refers, as you have done. I'd remind you that in any body text (or footnote), the formal name of a chapter ought to be italicized for readability. --Not in the name field of the table itself, but when it is in any body text or ref or EFN. And while I personally favor use of the capitalized word "Chapter" as you have used it here, defined to be a specific chapter, other project participants sort of out-voted me, and we've agreed to keep the word "chapter" as lower case, even in an italicized formal name. (Example, "The Scorpion Club (local) soon was designated as the Scorpion chapter, and has remained a property-owning organization on the campus since that time." --Making up a non-existent EFN as an example.) - These are interesting additions. Occasionally, other editors have advised me to slim down the visible notes, demoting some of that content to an EFN, rather than to fill up a field on the viewable table itself. I have opted to do so regarding simple notes that list the predecessor organization; It isn't a pressing issue, and such comments have been sporadic on the pages I have done. But I took that advice and have followed it: An example you might review is List of Delta Kappa Epsilon chapters, where there are many EFNs along with Refs. Also, in case you haven't picked up on this, when listing dates, use the non-spaced hyphen "–" and not "-" between the DTS templates. (I didn't check if you are using one or another, and simply write this to help future editors.) One of the reviewers will eventually switch these out, so doing so will save them a step. - Jmnbqb, would you check the listing for Theta-Beta chapter, which Baird's has listed at the College of New Jersey? The table here has it at Belmont Abbey College, so one of these seems to have been an error. I thought you might have access to better information than I do on this item. Further, in the lower section, chapters that never chartered, the College of New Jersey is listed twice. Of course, if Baird's is in error, you can use the web form on the main page of the archive (last line of the body text) to alert them to the need for a correction. - I would default to TKE Headquarters' chapter list, which has the Theta-Beta chapter listed as Belmont Abbey College. I also believe that the lower colony section is not in error with the duplication; TKE Headquarters seem to assign a new colony number if the previous colony never became a chapter, and there are other universities that are duplicated in that section.
