12.110.35.148 (talk) 19:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC) Mira Mesa is not a city, it is a neighborhood of San Diego. Also, its reference link is invalid. It should be removed in my opinion.[reply]

Does L.A. for Los Angeles really require a reference? 167.216.14.162 (talk) 21:28, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everything in these nickname articles should have a reference. It is difficult enough to keep out the garbage without ignoring the rules for some nicknames. (Note that some unsourced additions get deleted on sight... "L.A." was kept only because it is believed to be real.) --Orlady (talk) 23:21, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reference note #66 implies that Herb Caen is responsible for "Anti-Frisco-ism". This actually began with an 1872 edict from our own Joshua Abraham Norton, Norton I,,,Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. The original edict can be found www.sfhistoryencyclopedia.com. Luvinhistory (talk) 18:40, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

/* Added "San Pancho" to list of nicknames for San Francisco */

[edit]

I previously added "San Pancho" as a nickname for San Francisco. I am from San Francisco and have heard the nickname many times. But the only credible reference I could find was in "Brown-eyed Children of the Sun," page 108. This reference only shows that Camilo Cienfuegos referred to the city that way once in a letter. My change was reverted with the note that a single person using the name in a letter is not sufficient.

As I said, I know from personal experience that it is a common nickname in a certain subculture (basically, Latinos living in and near San Francisco call it that often).

I don't want to get into a "revert war" over it. But I think it is a legitimate nickname. I don't know a lot about Wikipedia. Any advice welcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.211.138.82 (talk) 07:50, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
