one off concerts![edit]

Hi - not going to argue - I guess one off sounded better to me (and I was watching for vandals!). You are absolutely right to put it in the edit comments by the way. Why not sign up and edit anyway - you would be welcome - regards -- Nigel (Talk) 17:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

these one off 'festivals' are mainly benefit concerts and should be moved accordingly --Smithdan86 (talk) 22:47, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Max Whittaker Festival[edit]

I've never heard of this one, and I can't find a web result for it. Joke by the Max Whittaker of the blog that does come up, perhaps? -- iPhil (talk) 12:22, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nostell Priory[edit]

No mention of Nostell Priory.

I saw Jethro Tull there at some point in the early 1980's. 82.21.207.51 (talk) 22:09, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shambala[edit]

The link to Shambala festival wiki page links to the Canadian Shambala festival, not the UK one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.6.241 (talk) 01:19, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page References[edit]

Anyone think that all of the links to websites should also be added to the references section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freebirdthemonk (talkcontribs) 13:16, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Festival Too in King's Lynn[edit]

I'm drafting an article about Festival Too in King's Lynn, Norfolk. Ultimately, I think it should be included in this list of festivals. But for now, could I ask for help and advice (I'm new to Wikipedia article creation/editing) on how to make it a viable article and how to make it worth of inclusion in this list? The draft article can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Robertshippey/Festival_Too Thanks. Robertshippey (talk) 14:41, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would go ahead and add it. Just add it in the list under the appropriate genre. As for the article, it looks like a great start. Keep adding! If you have questions about your article or anything else, feel free to post a message on my talk page. Cheers, Freebirdthemonk (talk) 16:09, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basingstoke Live "biggest" free festival[edit]

You have stated that Basingstoke Live is the "biggest" (best attended) free festival. Is there a reference for this. Also the figure was taken in 2010, the number has increased lots since them (I have been to every BStoke Live) so do you have an up to date number as the other festivals may have over-taken it by now (e.g. Caversham Festival was catching up). Travelling Festivals[edit]

What does this section add? Bloodstock Open Air has been held annually at Catton Hall since 2005, and Sonisphere has been held at Knebworth in the years when it has run in the UK, so these are as settled as any of the events in the list. Many festivals are held at different venues over their history, as they evolve and grow, but this doesn't make them 'travelling festivals'. The main list does not distinguish by location. In any case, Bloodstock and Sonisphere are already included in the main list. Radio 1's Big Weekend is an annual UK festival held at different venues each year, so in this sense it 'travels', but its article makes this clear. Sounds of the Underground seems to have come to the UK once in 2006 and has not run since 2007 (?). Are Ozzfest (in UK in 1998, 2001 and 2002) and Warped Tour (2012 and 2015 at Alexander Palace) even UK festivals? (I'm not sure what the qualifying definition is to be on this page.) I would argue for removing the Travelling Festivals section entirely, and where appropriate transferring the events in it to the main list. 85.210.174.41 (talk) 11:25, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion Criteria[edit]

What is the criteria? I propose either that they need a Wikipedia page and to meet the wiki notability guidelines or simply that they are referred to in secondary source that can be referenced. Perhaps also the festivals must have to have been held in the U.K. somewhere within the last 3 years or it should be moved to the "former festivals" section (that needs to be created). As for what makes a "one-off festival" worthy of entry, I assume having a Wikipedia page would do. Anything not meeting those requirement should be removed. M.T.S.W.A. (talk)

list sorting[edit]

The list is currently sorted into genres but as has been pointed out (though the comment seems to have been deleted) most festivals are cross-genre and the sorting isn't backed up by sources. I think the list would be better sorted by attendance. Any thoughts? M.T.S.W.A. (talk)

Cleanup and improvements?[edit]

Performed a bit of a major cleanup of this page, removing entries with questionable notability without pages on Wikipedia. I think the list would also be better off sorted by county/geography rather than genre. It's been mentioned before but this genre categorization isn't great - many span multiple genres and sorting alphabetically by genre puts Bluegrass right at the top of the page, which to me is... interesting.

Also proposing that this page could become "Music Festivals in the United Kingdom", and contain a bit more on the historical and cultural context behind it all in the UK, rather than simply the wall of links it is today (we have categories for that!)
