Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that picture depict a man in half-lotus position?

--I don't even think it is a half-lotus, since that should mean one foot is resting on top of the other thigh. In this picture, the foot is just resting in the crook between the upper and lower portions of the other leg. Perhaps this picture should be replaced with the picture under Zazen, which is an accruate portrayal. --Jleon 20:16, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC) Quas hay

Anyway, I don't think that picture is clear enough either, since it doesn't show the position of the legs. I suggest to use the first picture under Asana, which is much clearer IMHO. Devil Master 14:42, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Improvement Drive

Meditation is currently a nominee on WP:IDRIVE. If you would like to see this article improved vote for it on WP:IDRIVE.--Fenice 15:32, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

"proper" breathing

Any particular reason why we need scare quotes there? --Geoff Capp 09:17, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

How much is fair use?

I question whether the new Instructions section, begun in this revision by Johanflod (talk · contribs) and including an extensive (though cited) quote, really constitutes fair use. Anyone with a good understanding of the law and Wikipedia policy care to comment one way or the other? Perhaps it would be better off rewritten and cited, just to play safe. --Geoff Capp 11:06, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Sure looks like copyvio to me. I came here to ask the same question. I'll add a copyvio template. Mglg 16:33, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I removed the Instructions section since nobody has defended its copyright status. Instructions aren't really what Wikipedia is about anyway. mglg(talk) 23:10, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Song by Buckethead

Guitarist/songwriter Buckethead has a popular song with the name "Padmasana". How can we reflect this fact in an adequate way? --Taraborn 18:09, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if this name came from Bill Laswell who often uses this kind of titles for albums or even projects, but that may be the real source. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
There's also a song called "Lotus Island" on Inbred Mountain - does only refer to the Semichi Islands group? Who knows...--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 12:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

But what is it?

This doesn't actually say what it is! It's more than "cross legged", surely? 212.183.136.193 01:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

It looks like a more detailed description was cut with the "Instructions" copyvio. 216.75.170.81 (talk) 18:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

yeah the picture is not illustrative at all. there must be tons of better ones out there on the net that actually show the leg positions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.58.73.224 (talk) 01:47, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Some rewriting, in connection with citing in other sections

I had this article tagged to merge with list of yoga postures but it's refered to from other places and (I think) of sufficient notability to have its own page. It wasn't complete in terms of an article to cite from the asanas page without a description of the position which was deleted in a cleanup refered to above, on the grounds that said description was more than "fair use" of another's words. So I've rewritten it entirely but based on a hopefully knowledgable interpretion of those words which are now cited from its ref tag. Let me know if you think this meets guidlines. If not, I'll have another go. Trev M (talk) 23:09, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

My above edit was edited-out today, leaving a partially formed section heading, from an IP address in Delhi, without any discussion here. next time this happens I'll place a missing info template on the article stating the missing information, requesting to discuss what the editor's objection is here. Trev M (talk) 22:56, 25 February 2010 (UTC) et seq

As for the illustration, I'd like to see it replaced with a more universal, less "personal" image of equal or better quality. May try one unless floods ;>) of disapproval. Trev M (talk) 23:09, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Why is there a photograph from a porno on here? Is that fair use or what? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.227.157.153 (talk) 05:38, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Chronic use causes knee & hip injury?

I have long read that chronic extended use of full-lotus pose causes knee & hip injury in at least some vulnerable persons. Should at least mention here that pre-existing, new, or progressing hip or knee problems are absolute contraindications for full lotus.

Techniques for recognizing vulnerability, and best-practices pose and preparation techniques for avoidance of injury should also be presented, with citation of authority.

In particular, I saw a population study about 1990 that identified extended use of the full-lotus pose as a risk factor for gradual but irreversible hip injury, and have been informed by a yoga best-practices teacher that knee injury is even more prevalent, and that risks to both can be ameliorated by proper risk identification, avoidance where risk of injury is heightened, careful and gradual preparation, and proper technique. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ocdnctx (talkcontribs) 14:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

We cannot include this original research unless citations can be provided. Of course, we thank you for raising your concerns and I hope for the best that someone with the relevant citations will provide them.Curb Chain (talk) 22:31, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

This is not the half lotus

"Half lotus" redirects here but it should really redirect to Siddhasana. I do not know how to edit redirects. Could someone in the how do it? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.234.175.14 (talk) 08:35, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I will redirect it.Curb Chain (talk) 09:05, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Improve Language

"Only the most flexible people can achieve this asana without a support under their pelvis (and likewise does The Dalai Lama explicitly advise).[4]"

The parenthetical seems to need editing. I don't know what it is saying, so I'm not sure how to make it better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.76.165.3 (talk) 19:56, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Should someone incl how to get adequate knee flexibility?

This article talks about how those with inflexible knees should not engage in the lotus position. If someone is aware of research related to how someone can acquire the flexibility necessarily, should it be included in this article? (Just fyi; I don't have the the research, but I'm sure someone here must! :p) --Mermaidthrone (talk) 09:45, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Painful asana

U should include both pros and cons of the asana....in most of the people this asana causes numbness and pain in legs. Dbkatira (talk) 17:08, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Delete Benefits section

The "Benefits" section contains no references whatsoever yet claims health benefits such as digestion improvement. I opt it gets deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.91.26.125 (talk) 05:21, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
