Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (This article is about the first Malaysian person to reach Mount Everest. I have given authentic references for the same which includes malaysian government pages & also malaysian book of records webpage. I am not sure why this page is marked for speedy deletion) --Mugunth (talk) 13:36, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of name[edit]

There are three possible spellings of the second mountaineer's surname. The government website spells it "Mohandas" and shows his given name, "Nagappan" (Mohandas Nagappan). Other sites spell it "Mohandass" and "Mohanadas". Which is correct? Also, it might be better to title this article with M. Magendran's full name, such as "Magendran M_______". Is his given name available? I have not been able to find it so far in the sources. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 15:36, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I found his given name, and I found his birth date at this link. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 18:36, 20 July 2013

Hi, This is just for your information.

Name: Magendran M. Munisamy (Given name: Magendran, Father's name: M. Munisamy). It is very common among Tamil PIO(People of Indian Origin)of Malaysia to use the first letter of their father's name in front of the given names, e.g. M. Magendran

More often than not, confusion happen because local newspapers do not use correct spelling (of names) when publishing articles and reports of both M. Magendran and N. Mohanadas.

Real name: Magendran M. Munisamy (First Malaysian Mt. Everest summitter/23 May 1997/11.55 am)/Date of Birth: 06 December 1963 Commonly known as: M. Magendran Also known as: Datuk M. Magendran (An award / title bestowed by the King of Malaysia (like the British Knighthood 'Sir').

Real name: Mohanadas Nagappan (Second Malaysian Mt. Everest summiteer/23 May 1997/12.10 pm) (Given name: Mohanadas, Father's name: Nagappan) Commonly known as: N. Mohanadas Also known as: Datuk N. Mohanadas

It is certainly good to hear from you, M. Magendran! I shall make those corrections where they are still needed. One question: I have read that you presently live and work in Kuala Lumper and that you are originally from Klang. Doesn't your Facebook page say that you are from Klang? Isn't Klang your "hometown"? Or were you instead born in Kuala Lumper? Thank you for your instruction on the structure of names. I had a few things backward, I see. Congratulations for your awesome achievement and for your datukship! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 23:22, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, may I ask... was it you who made the article changes? I only ask because the IP number of that editor is different from the one you show above. It is 175.140.245.5. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 23:37, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for correcting the facts promptly.
M. Magendran was born in Kuala Lumpur but grew up and still residing in Klang. I travel daily to Kuala Lumpur to work (approx. 35 km away frm Klang).
Yes, I made the article changes (if you're referring to the addition of the time of summit by both climbers).175.140.245.5 (talk) 07:57, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thank you. Now, you will notice that an editor has placed a {{citation needed}} template next to your birth date. Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, requires that editors search for and find reliable sources to cite. Those sources are then used to support what is written in the article. It would help if you could point me to something written about you that would show your birthdate and would confirm the facts you gave above. It could be a newspaper article with a short biography on you, or even a book that mentions you and includes important facts about you. Thank you for your help! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 17:18, 24 July 2013

Search links[edit]

I'm going to remove the notability tag at the TOP, but before I do the search links in the tab are useful. That's how I found the postage stamp book. So here are the links:

Thank you for these links - they should prove useful. However, I'm not sure how you wish to proceed with them. Were you looking to add these links, or to highlight them for editors? - Bilby (talk) 00:03, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The profile picture associated to this article needs to be changed as it is not of Datuk M. Magendran. It is misleading and has created confusion among readers, especially students who are searching for pictures and information about the first group of Malaysian Mount Everest summiteers. Confusion often happens when the names and the profile pictures are mixed up. For this reason, I request the current profile picture (which is of Datuk N. Mohanadas) be removed or replaced which a picture of Datuk M. Magendran that can be found in any one of the following links.
