Edit Request

Note - I have been paid by Hideaway Fall publishers, on behalf of M Jonathan Lee, to propose changes to this article. I am aware of the COI guidelines, however I am new to Wikipedia and any errors in my proposed edits are made without ill-meaning intent. All edits requested intend to update the article to include information beyond its last major update in 2018. All information is factually sourced and cited. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Information to be added or removed:

• I would ask that the paragraph beginning "He began writing seriously at the age of 9" is moved into the lead section as this information is equally relevant to his biography as opposed to his career. This change will also balance the distribution of text.

• I propose that the following paragraph be included in the introductory section:

"Lee's novels often depict characters who have mental health problems, but beyond his fiction, he is a regular contributor and now writes monthly on mental health issues for the Huffington Post. In an interview on the Paulette Edwards show, Lee spoke candidly about his decision to establish a group for those affected by bereavement by suicide in his local area. The interview was broadcast on BBC Radio in March 2020. He has also spoken openly in the press about losing his brother to suicide and the difficulties of getting help for those left behind.

• Remove sentence "He is currently negotiating the film rights." as it is no longer accurate information.

• I would like to add the following biographical material to the lead section:

"Lee was born in Barnsley on 5 April 1974 shortly after his his parents moved from nearby Sheffield. He is the second of three children. He attended St Matthew’s primary school and Keir Street Junior school before continuing his education at the Kingstone school. Following two years at Barnsley College, he trained to be an accountant prior to leaving his job to travel through North America, Oceania and Europe. He eventually studied business at the University of Central Lancashire. He continued to work as an accountant during the day, whilst writing in the evenings, until landing his first publishing deal in 2011."

Source: This was provided to me by Jonathan Lee. I understand that this cannot be cited, however I have noticed on other Wikipedia pages that core biographical material (parents, birthday, education) is often unsourced as there is no record of it. I hope this edit can be included as it offers more background to the author and his upbringing.

• The book Drift Stumble Fall needs adding to the infobox information. As does 337, to be released Nov 2020. 337 also needs adding to the bibliography.

• The image used here is over two years old and requires update. Please replace with this image M_Jonathan_Lee_headshot.jpg

• Important: Following these amendments, I would ask that the WP:PAID and WP:PROMO banner warnings be removed.

Requests have been partially implemented.

• The WP:LEAD of an article should be a summary of the whole article rather than a place for biographical information.
• I have added an "early life" section, which is very common in biographies here and included some of the above provided information, leaving out some more trivial details. This should still be sourced if possible please.
• I have taken out the sentence about film rights; as well as replacing the image in the infobox. I have not added Drift Stumble Fall or 337 to the infobox and have in fact removed the list, as the parameter is clearly for particularly notable works, not every work.
• 337 should only be added to the article after it has been released.
• Finally, Greenjumpergirl, if you can add the Connected contributor (paid) disclosure to both this talk page and your own usr page (not your user talk page), then I will be happy to remove the Undisclosed Paid maintenance template from the article. Further Edit Request

Further to the changes above, I have been made aware of further issues with the information in this article. As declared at the top of this page, I have a COI with regard to this article and therefore request that the following amendments be made:

• The release of 337. Please include this title in Lee's Bibliography and the following sentences in the Career section; "On the 30th November 2020, Lee's sixth novel 337 was published by Hideaway Fall. Established review forum, LoveReadingUK included 337 on their "Indie Books We Love" list in the month of its release."

 Not done Lovereading is not a reliable source, and the award is not notable. I suggest finding reviews of the book in reliable sources.

• This would now suitably qualify 337 as one of Lee's 'Notable Works' and I would ask for it's inclusion in the infobox under this heading. The Radio should also be re-instated here, due to being nationally shortlisted for 'The Novel Prize' in 2012.

 Not done As noted above, LoveReadingUK awards are not notable. I don't know what 'The Novel Prize' is or who administers it, it doesn't have a Wikipedia page and the source doesn't give any additional information about this, so I'm not going to say it is notable, either.

• Finally, I would ask that the personal life section be reduced to "Lee has been divorced twice and lives with his twins." As the sources cited do not support the material written and, given the sensitivity of the topic, Lee wishes for this section to be as brief as possible.

 Not done I verified that the information is supported by the sources. Wikipedia is not censored and the source about his depression was from an interview he gave to the Yorkshire Post.

Thank you for considering these edits. I have done my best to adhere to Wikipedia policy but I am aware that the first proposed edit may walk a little close to the line of 'advertising material' and am open to changes should this not be acceptable. Hi @Z1720: Thank you for addressing my requests and for taking the time to explain your decisions. Though LoveReading has been deemed an unsuitable reference, the fact remains that 337 was published on 30th November 2020 and should be listed under "Books". I also wish to query the wording of the personal life section. The article cited reads "He recently remarried and lives with his wife and their combined family of five children" where the current Wikipedia text reads "Lee was divorced with three children, remarried in 2017 and lives with his wife, children, and their children." The phrasing implies that Lee has grandchildren. This is untrue and the source does not suggest it either. Thank you for your consideration. Greenjumpergirl (talk) 13:22, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Greenjumpergirl: for 337, I will include it in the list if there is a reliable source that proves that it exists. For example, if it was reviewed by an independent newspaper. For the second part, I have fixed the wording about his children. Z1720 (talk) 22:11, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
