Outsider Musician?[edit]

Given his past training in guitar which predated his recordings, as well as experience with compositions in the 70's, Mark Gormley would not fit the definition of an outsider musician. This classification fits a deviated but common definition used erroneously today to describe artists or musicians who are not part of the art or music "scene," whatever that is. It's also used incorrectly to describe artists whose work seems of poor quality. His art would be more related to naive art than outsider art, but even then that's a stretch for the reasons listed above. His structure and chord progression are not abnormal, unlike Crispin Glover's work in the 80s. Crispin Glover is one of the more high profile examples of an outsider artist being an actor who made off key and often nonsensical musical recordings for fun.24.28.152.250 (talk) 17:57, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am very concerned this page may be deleted because of notability concerns. Mark Gormley is an internet sensation, and is listened to by millions around the world. Perhaps Wikipedia's criteria for notability should be reconsidered. 208.120.19.94 (talk) 10:22, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

from Wikipedia:Notability_(music):

Criteria for musicians and ensembles

7. Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city

I would say Gormley is absolutely the "most prominent representative" of the Pensacola music scene.

Uncharted Zone has been on TV for 10 years, and on the radio in various forms since 1988, as the main venue for unsigned/pro-am Pensacola musicians, and while the Gormley phenomenon may seem like just an internet meme to some, the Pensacola scene has a long tradition of sincere performers and a large audience. Would it be impossible to find his DoB? 24.149.50.220 (talk) 16:06, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
