Irish-centric page[edit]

The name originates from Scotland, yet most of the references are to the later Irish links (which came through immigration). More of the name's Scottish origins need to be added. This seems to be part of a larger problem with Scottish names on wiki and the net in general. Ses102 (talk) 18:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ses102, I've spent quite a lot of time editing this page as well as many other surname pages so apologies if any information is slightly inaccurate.
The reason I have focused on the clans Irish links is that I have found it difficult to obtain any information about the clans Scottish origins other than it was a sept of 'Clan Donald'.
Whilst the clans origins were in Scotland, I have re-added the surname as an 'Irish and Scottish surname' as I believe it is inappropriate to classify this surname as solely a Scottish name as it has been present in Ireland from early on and is now widespread with many people bearing this surname in both countries. - I do agree with you about the need to add the clan's Scottish origins and will attempt to expand this part of the wiki page.
Secondly, this surname cannot be described as 'Northern Irish' as the state was not in existence when some members of the clan moved here on a seasonal basis as 'Gallowglasses' at the invitation of the MacDonnell's. StairnahEireann12 (talk) 22:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
