Interesting background info, but I can't document it[edit]

Hi. It's my understanding that Mere Smith was a "Buffy" fan with no previous TV writing credits, who approached Joss Whedon cold and asked him if she could work for him. I believe after some conversation he hired her as a production assistant at first, and then as a writer for "Angel" If I knew of published support for this statement I would have added it to the article myself--but I'm neither sure of the details nor do I have a source. If anyone else can provide an acceptable source for whatever the story really is, I think it would be a good addition to the article. DSatz (talk) 23:20, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I heard that she wrote a lot of Buffy fan fiction and was discovered that way and brought into Angel Brianmathews (talk) 00:10, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Brianmathews[reply]

Actually, she was a regular contributor to the Buffy Posting Board and met Joss at the first Posting Board Party. After moving out to California from New York, she worked as Manny Coto's assistant for six months before "Angel" began production, when Joss and David Greenwalt hired her to be the script coordinator for Season One. Much to her shock and delight (and thanks to the mentoring of Tim Minear), she was then hired as a Staff Writer for Season Two. And I know all this because... I am Mere Smith.
