Changes to be made:

Hey everyone, I'm going to be adding a few sections to this article and making it a bit more well rounded. Sections to be added include a history section and a section on Reactivity and Applications. The Reactivity and Applications sections will have subsections for Reactivity, the metalation mechanism, transmetalation, and organolithium reagents (Considering that they're the most commonly used organometallic reagents).AlecWild (talk) 22:15, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Organization and content[edit]

A few comments or suggestions:

The article should not attempt to discuss the properties of the products since that (huge) area is the topic of organometallic chemistry.
It is also impossible to discuss mechanism unless we define the particular type of metalation. On that topic, we could just turn this article into a redirect to Metal–halogen exchange, which is better defined. Most of the time, metalation referss to metal-halogen exchange.
Other metalations:
- deprotonation is a major type, e.g. in enolate formation or acetylide making. Almost trivial.
- Electophilic metalation, such as some types of C-H activation. Subtopic: Directed ortho metalation
- Oxidative addition
- Carbometalation

My advice is to turn this article into a short disambiguation site, with links to various specific types.--Smokefoot (talk) 18:41, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
