How can this possibly qualify for speedy deletion? He was a head coach of a D1 college basketball program? This just shows blatant unfamiliarity with criteria. matt91486 (talk) 23:29, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Really, and what criteria states that he qualifies for inclusion? warrior4321 23:35, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Generally we would measure coaches by WP:ATHLETE, and as the coach of a D1 college basketball program, he would meet for competing at the highest amateur level - D1 NCAA. This is, after all, why there is a wikiproject devoted to college basketball. matt91486 (talk) 23:36, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, if it's the lack of references you're concerned about, I added the one from the main Golden Hurricane basketball article. To get more specific references, it would require archival research, since I don't have newspapers from the 1940s on hand. His time period doesn't make him more or less notable, however. matt91486 (talk) 23:41, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Of course not, he could be from 1503, but as long as he meets the guidelines and references to show he is notable, he is fine. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for responding in a polite and proper fashion, unlike the other "hangon responds" I get. I've currently asked about coaches at the talk page of WP:ATHLETE. He seems quite notable, so I will withdraw the speedy deletion tag from the page right now. However, if WP:ATHLETE tells us that he is not notable, then obviously I will have to place the speedy delete tag again. warrior4321 00:20, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At this point, I think that since I've taken the time to put some references, I'd prefer you at least take the article to AfD rather than doing a second speedy tag which doesn't allow for public discussion. matt91486 (talk) 00:33, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

notability[edit]

Milligan is certainly notable, but he is much better known in football, where he is most closely associated with the University of Pittsburgh football team as a player, assistant, and head coach. Therefore, the title needs to be changed with a move to which this article could serve as a redirect. My suggestions are: Walter "Mike" Milligan, Walter S. "Mike" Milligan, Walter Milligan or Mike Milligan (coach). CrazyPaco (talk) 01:08, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
