episode duplication[edit]

so someone decided that a first broadcast in the US means that episodes already listed under previous seasons should be added again.. removed.

Who came up with the episode numbering system anyway? Since some contributors clearly don't bother reading the existing article to make sure what they are adding is correct, is it really a good idea to have a set of numbers invented by contributors? can't see any such numbers on any of the sources.. Unfortunately, sources are annoyingly inconsistent when listing episodes so it was decided to go with Discovery's official episode guide. Unfortunately, that too is inconsistent so numbering is difficult, but it's less inconsistent than other sources. DVDs were not being issued as seasons, so that wasn't an alternative. The simplest solution was as follows:
  • Episodes, whether or not they are declared as "special", that are listed in the official guide are numbered sequentially based on the official episode list.
  • Episodes that are not listed in the official guide are numbered as special episodes, with the "No. in season" being listed as "SPx".
  • Episodes noted as "special" in the episode are annotated as such with a note in the episode summary.
  • Episodes that appeared out of season ("Best" series from 2004 and "Busters Cut" from 2010) are listed separately as is the "Young Scientist Special", which wasn't aired as a normal MythBusters episode or special.
In 2012, the "Plane Boarding" episode aired outside the U.S. and so did not appear in the official guide, but it wasn't aired as a special, so it was included in the 2012 list as it was apparently a one-off inconsistency. "Car Chase Chaos/Animal Avoidance" aired in 2013 in a similar fashion, causing more confusion. To confuse the issue even more, Discovery stopped including episodes in the official guide at one stage and then revamped the guide completely. When it did, some previously missing episodes were included in the guide resulting in some numbering inconsistencies. For example, "Viewers-Choice/Christmas Special" is now included and so should actually be listed as episode 25/17 instead of SP1/Special 1. Because we've been consistently using the U.S. air dates for the order in which episodes are listed, "Plane Boarding" and "Car Chase Chaos/Animal Avoidance" to the 2014 article with a note that they originally aired much earlier in other countries, once they actually air. --AussieLegend () 12:08, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
