Discussion[edit]

Shall we merge to Nanbu or to Nambu?

Nanbu and Nambu are different romanizations of the same Japanese word: <naNbu>. Before /b/, /N/ is automatically realized as an [m], thus [nambu]. Hepburn romanization uses an m in this case, but our MOS says that this is "generally deprecated". I would not go so far as to say that it is deprecated, but rather that in more informal spellings the difference is not recognized. Government spellings such as those by JR seem to consistently render this case as an m. This is more an issue of spelling vs actual pronunciation: Japanese spell this with an n and pronounce it as an m.

Also the Korean links need to be considered. These are all 남부 which can only be nambu.

In consideration of the above, I would suggest a merger to Nambu. Bendono (talk) 22:13, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus is apparent, so I'm closing discussion. With the use of "m" nominally deprecated, it would seem Nanbu is the proper location for the article. ENeville (talk) 20:42, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
