Wish I still had a rhombifer[edit]

I had several of these guys growing up, wish I still had one of my big boys to get some good pictures of. I had 2 or 3 that were over 4 ft. The subdivision I grew up in surrounded about a 200 acre freshwater lake. Used to see these guys all the time. We had a channel from the lake in my back yard. We caught most of them in a swampy area of the lake though. They ate the heck out of brim that we could catch by the truckload. Also used to see a lot of olive green water snakes with yellow bellies, and red watersnakes. Wish I could find more info on those. Bmcassagne 08:15, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The one giving birth in the picture is my 5 foot female rhombifer. I don't normally keep native species, except for educational purposes. As for the other species in your area, you should have a look at a field guide. Nerodia cyclopion is very common and is generally referred to as the Mississippi Green Water Snake. Also, Nerodia taxispilota is often red in color, and I've seen subspecies/locality specimens of Nerodia erythrogaster which are red in color. The Southern Water Snake, Nerodia fasciata is also pretty cool, with red triangles on the side of the body and a bright red belly. -Dawson 18:07, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
