Nd1, Nd2[edit]

Are they ever actually called Niddesa 1 & Niddesa 2? Abbreviations Nidd 1, Nd2 &c are not the same. Peter jackson 13:18, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, I'm wrong, I believe. I wanted to quick identify Nd1 & Nd2 as related here (e.g., because I think at the time I was cutting and pasting PED text that referenced "Nd2") and since I didn't see a space for "standard abbreviations," I made at the time what appeared to be a plausible leap (which I realize I must stop doing!) to referencing "Niddesa 1," etc. Put another way, I guess they might somewhere be referred to "Niddesa 1" and "Niddessa 2" but, off the top of my head, I don't recall such explicitly. Thanks for catching it and for kindly addressing it here. I'll change ASAP! Sorry for my propagating my own ignorant confusion. Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 14:08, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Of course, feel free to edit my change if you find it in some way lacking. Not only do you have a better command of the English language than I do, but I've found your knowledge exceeds my resources. Thanks again.
You do raise a valid point, though. We should put abbreviations in somewhere. I suppose in theory they should all have either separate articles or entries in disambiguation articles. The trouble is there have been quite a lot of different abbreviations for the same texts (& sometimes vice versa). Peter jackson 09:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps in the Pali literature or similar article we can create a table or sidebar that looks something like the incipient sidebar to the right (e.g., based on PTS PED abbreviations) — as well as (when one feels so moved) identify article-specific abbreviations within specific articles (e.g., "Nd2" within the Niddesa article)?
I realize that this sidebar is kind of backwards insomuch that the text names are in the first column instead of the abbreviations themselves; but, as you indicate, the abbreviations can be so varied thus, if the first column were the abbreviations, we'd have multiple rows for a single text.
Just an idea, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 13:47, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
