Republican Governors with Democrat Secretaries of State?[edit]

Why did Henry Bellmon (1963-1967) and Dewey F. Bartlett (1967-1971 and 1987-1991) appoint Democrats to serve as secretary of state?

Frank Keating, a conservative Republican in this era of winner-take-all politics, appointed the only three Republicans to hold the office of secretary of state. Poldy Bloom 04:27, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
