[edit]Leave messages here about what you want to do with the Pawtucket Page, especially, what you _can and will_ do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.228.147.23 (talk) 23:07, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Pawtucket Artists: Add stuff for the art & culture section on this page or directly on the wiki. This section is just a stub right now and I'm not gonna do it all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.228.147.23 (talk) 01:25, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Whoa, whoa, whoa. What exactly are you trying to do here? Because it doesn't seem to be the Wiki Way to referee what goes on a page before it goes on. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent, but this does not look kosher. Also, it would be a very good idea for you to get a login name and sign your posts with four tildes. - The previous was from speck22. I didn't realize that I wasn't logged in when I edited. I was logged in as a browser. I'll double check before posting. (Note that I did remembered to summarize my work. A minor victory.)
- Please explain more fully or email me (speck22@gmail.com) re: where I'm going amiss. I'm trying to build this page into a useable source of current information about what's happening in this city by activating the various stakeholders to develop and maintain there own information.
- My fear was senting loose a torrent of unmitigated commercialism from developers. If the Wiki Way is to let them have at, my bad. I have removed that paragraph. Also, could you specify any relevant policy docs I should review.
- Please advise. Speck22 02:46, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I don't see a need to quote policy (apart from maybe WP:OWN), but I understand the desire to keep commercialism in check. What you might wish to do is set up a WikiProject -- I don't know how to go about it, but you could look at existing WikiProjects to get an idea. Better than just babysitting an article, at any rate -- I've tried editing articles with babysitters, and they can be rather tough to deal with. (Try editing Cutco and see what I mean.) Good luck in what you're trying to do, though -- as someone who goes to Providence about once a year, to me Pawtucket is a place where the PawSox play and Hasbro has its headquarters, and that's most of what I know about it. So there's clearly a need. Haikupoet 03:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Re: new edits to culture section. I have added a reference to the new rezoning issues in the culture section. It has been reverted by a wiki mod? Not sure why this is happening. I have added proper references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.182.44.117 (talk) 07:35, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
name
[edit]I am assuming Pawtucket's name comes from the Pawtucket Indians, but most people probably don't know that. In fact I came here just to double check, and there is no mention. Is it possible to put that somewhere?72.195.136.189 (talk) 15:56, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not very good at editing, but if someone does put this in the article, please be sure to mention that Pawtucket, was the indian tribes word for "running water" and the city was given that name for its waterfall. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.182.44.117 (talk) 07:25, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Former Portuguese Empire?
[edit]"Pawtucket hosts a significant population from across the former Portuguese Empire (11.6%)[8]"
This sentence is confusing. Does it mean a large Hispanic population, or people specifically from former Portuguese colonies? Unfortunately the reference link is dead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.162.210.1 (talk) 19:38, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
