Untitled[edit]

This piece is indeed dedicated to Therese von Brunswick. However there is no link that I know of between this piece and "Für Elise". This appears to be a confusion between the terms "sonata" and "bagatelle". I'm going to move the new text here and revert. Quendus 20:31, 29 July 2006 (UTC) Here it is:[reply]

The most commonly displayed title for the peice is "Fur Elise." This is incorrect. Many rumors have circulated about the reason for this mistake, the most common being that the title had worn off by the time someone found it, and they misinterpreted the worn print. The actual title is "A Thérèse," which in French means, "For Thérèse."

Romain Rolland wrote that Thérèse von Brunsvik was in love with and engaged to Beethoven in the year of 1806. Beethoven had a portrait of Thérèse.

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Piano Sonata No. 1 (Beethoven) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RM bot 13:16, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Note the date of the foregoing notice. The discussion, now long closed, concerned whether to move the sonata articles to new titles incorporating opus numbers. The conclusion was not to do so. Drhoehl (talk) 23:47, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
