Notability[edit]

I couldn't find any references about Spanish/Polish Horseshoes. Without citations, it seems to violate WP:NFT. Roothog (talk) 02:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't provide any citations, however, I have been playing this game for years now with the same rules and scoring system.24.218.11.239 (talk) 23:24, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps speaking to the notability of the term, Elijah Wood taught Jimmy Fallon to play this game on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, NBC, Tuesday 8 September 2009. Elijah said that he calls it "Polish Horseshoes" but had heard that that might not be right. Jimmy Fallon said he thought maybe "Spanish Horseshoes," but perhaps because he read this article. --EricE (talk) 05:28, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not entirely sure on the accuracy of the scoring stated in this article. I've been playing PH since my freshman year of college (2004). I was taught and have always played with the scoring as follows: direct hit bottle - 6 direct hit but caught bottle - 5 hit pole team fails to catch bottle - 4 hit pole team caught bottle - 3 hit pole no bottle movement - 2 fail to catch frisbee - other team scores 1 frisbee catch - no score

First team to 28 wins but has to be at least 2 points more than the opposing team. So if the opposing team has 27 when you get to 28 you must score at least one more point. That point cannot be scored by the opposing team missing a frisbee catch. This avoids conflict. Potentially you could launch the frisbee at an extremely high rate of speed giving the opposing team very little probability of being able to catch it. There is horseshoes etiquette where everyone knows what is and is not an acceptable rate to throw the frisbee. Technically throwing the frisbee faster than someone's liking is not deemed uncatchable. Another point I'd like to shine light on is the other scoring system. This seems like the game would take a rather long period of time to play. Most people play this game with more than just the two teams. There's usually several people waiting for their opportunity. Also depending on skill level, if you're a beginner and have never played, chances are that game would take hours to play. It may seem easy enough to hit a pole/bottle with a frisbee but you'd be greatly underestimating the difficulty. With the scoring system I was taught games tend to last anywhere from 15-30 minutes. This allows everyone a chance to play. Plus the more you drink the higher the handicap and if you've been waiting over an hour to play, chances are you've already compromised your abilities.Ajmackey (talk) 01:27, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Spanish horseshoesPolish horseshoes — The notability of this article has been questioned, and yet I readily found a number of webpages on it, but most of the pages name it Polish Horseshoes with only one I could find naming it Spanish Horseshoes, so I think the PH name is more current. Currently the PH article is a redirect to the SH article; I think it should be the other way around. Jbening (talk) 01:29, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
