Talk:Raja El-Issa

Regarding the entry on Palestinian journalist Raja El-Issa who was born in 1922. The original text listed his country of birth as Palestine, which is incorrect, since no country by that name existed at that time. At the time the territory was Mandatory Palestine. Misrepresenting the juridical status of Palestine in 1922 is not a NPOV. I would note that the article on Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, correctly states that he was born in Mandatory Palestine, not Palestine. And no, I didn't write his bio. Mandatory Palestine with a capital M was never the name of any political entity. It was called Palestine. Zero^talk 12:51, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Family name

To zero0000 who has moved el-issa to al-issa, this spelling was written specifically on old english Filastin newspapers. Please revert all relevant changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Makeandtoss (talk • contribs)

In English sources, I see "al-" almost always and "el-" almost never. I think "el-" is just old-fashioned. Zero^talk

@Makeandtoss: @Zero0000: You're right Zero, the MoS Arabic doesn't apply here. However, to Makeandtoss, could you provide some official sources that spells Raja's name as "Raja El-Issa"? His father's name is often spelled "Isa al-Isa" or "Issa al-Issa" so I thought Raja's surname wouldn't be any different. Often, scholarly sources will spell Arabic names the "proper" way with the "al-", but this could contradict with the name's official English spelling. Such was the case with Mohamed Ali Eltaher. His official website spells his name that way, but most scholarly sources spell it Muhammad Ali al-Tahir. --Al Ameer (talk) 19:44, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

@Al Ameer son: The Jordan Times, a derivative newspaper from addustor which Raja El-Issa had helped founding has spelled the family name with an E instead of an A.

There is also a book published about his life, that also spells the family name with an E instead of an A. Also another book that does the same here Here's the only copy of Filastin's english edition that I found online, it is a very distorted image. But you may be able to see "El-Issa" on the right top box. You can make the al-Issa page redirect to El-Issa so as to avoid confusion. Thank you

Year of birth

This article says he was born in 1922. In this article about his father there is a photo of Raja as a child. The caption says the photo is from 1928, but the child is clearly at most one year old. So either the caption or this article is wrong. Zero^talk 13:47, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
