Name change[edit]

What is the source for the name of this regulation that has occasioned the recent move? I am not aware of an official source referring to it by this name. Stifle (talk) 17:49, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, sorry would've helped. It's just a shortened version of the official title. If you google it you'll see a bunch of references. The problem with EU legislation is that they only get unofficial short titles (like the "Acquired Rights Directive" for instance). Don't mind if you have another suggestion based on the long title. "Regulation... establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights..."
Sorry, that's original research. Moving back. Stifle (talk) 12:27, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • And moved back again. That title is original research. Stifle (talk) 13:50, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how the title "Flight Delay Compensation Regulation" is original research. It's just the common name for the regulation. "Flight Delay Compensation Regulation" even gets 7,250 results on Google. (Which is hardly the only way of judging such things but a good one nonetheless.) — Blue-Haired Lawyer t 22:46, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You've just proven my point by using original research on Google. Indeed, the regulation did not contemplate compensation for flight delays originally. That was added by judicial activism – so it could not be an appropriate name.
If an EU agency has given the regulation an official short name, or if reliable sources have established the name, then it might be appropriate. Stifle (talk) 10:43, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As the EU Court of Justice has described it as Air Passengers Rights Regulation, that is now an appropriate name. Stifle (talk) 14:25, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
