Why is this the 2nd worst fire in the history of the United States when the Cocoanut grove fire killed nearly 500 and the Iroquoi killed 600+. The Cocoanut grove fire in Boston allready has the title of 2nd worse fire... so this is ridiculously exaggerated. — 64.122.62.138, 08:35, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It says the second worst NIGHTCLUB fire ... Read a little more closely, douchebag. — Histmaven, 16:54, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"We the Cats Shall Hep Ya"?

[edit]

What does this song have to do with the fire? I admit I only know it from Joe Jackson's version, but the lyrics don't seem to have anything to do with a fire or any other kind of disaster. --Tkynerd 17:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title?

[edit]

I'm a casual editor who has only a vague idea what I'm doing (hence the lack of account), but isn't the title of this page not in line with WP:MOS#Article titles? "Night Club" seems stilted and is one word in other articles (República Cromagnon nightclub fire, The Station nightclub fire). Moreover, does "Fire" need to be capitalized? MoS explicity says no (fourth bullet), and those two articles do not have it capitalized. 99.237.212.101 (talk) 21:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stephen King's "It"?

[edit]

I wonder if this was the inspiration for the scene in Stephen King's novel where Mike's father tells him about the fire at the Black Spot, which was a black nightclub (takes place in the '30s I think?). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnnyt471 (talkcontribs) 21:29, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference list

[edit]

I don't understand the way the reference list is set up. Can someone link me to some info on how this reference list was made, why it was done this way etc.? It seems very un-anyone-can-edit to me. If I were to add a reference, it would be daunting. I've never seen anything like it in my experience on WP. 98.148.182.33 (talk) 18:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC) User:Pedant not logging in here[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

It seems there is not much being done to fix this article, there are several issues, most related to poorly referenced material, some synthetic material and poor noun choice. I am adopting this article and if you are interested in a mini task force, feel free to help. I am using as a reference the NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION's report, the MISSISSIPPI STATE RATING BUREAU report, and contemporary newspaper reports as references, as and when available.

First step, which will undoubtedly bring helpful attention is to move the article to Rhythm Club fire the Rhythm Club was a Dance hall rather than a Night Club: per NFPA report "DANCE HALL FIRE (RHYTHM CLUB)" ; MISSISSIPPI STATE RATING BUREAU report "The Natchez Dance Hall Holocaust" and illustration captioned as "Layout of the Natchez, Mississippi, Rhythm Club; and newspaper articles referring to it as "the Rhythm Club" and as a "dance hall". I can find no contemporaneous reports referring to it as the "Rhythm Night Club" as a name or as a "night club" or "nightclub" as a descriptive term.

Failing any discussion to the contrary, I will move the article later today as a noncontroversial move. If there are any objections, please discuss them here, or if you prefer, as a message on my talk page.

Secondly, the description of the fire's details and progress do not exactly accord with references, of which there is only one cited, the NFPA report.

Third, there are some mild NPOV issues I will correct.

Fourth, the fire's progress, cause and the resulting fire code changes which are what makes this incident encyclopedically relevant will get a thorough treatment.

Lastly, there are no illustrations or pictures. I will produce a floor plan of the building, and accompany that with an accurate narrative.

If anyone wants to help me take this on, please go ahead, or discuss with me so we can collaborate or work on separate issues as you desire. User:Pedant (talk) 19:46, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

See also [1] for another reference that indicates that the name 'Rhythm Club' holds a place in music history for those intimately involved in 'Black Music History' -- within months of the fire, a New Orleans club opened with the same name, apparently en memoriam of the Natchez Mississippi fire.
