That very well may be. However, there are many people whose fame and popularity are not remembered today. Perhaps it would have been better to word it as "in his day." I guarantee you that the name of Richard Harding Davis is not invoked very often today and not that many people remember him. His age at death is listed as 52, though he was only 51 at his death. I did not want to fiddle with it on edit because I did not know exactly how to do so, basically because his birth date is also listed with his death date.
