Country name[edit]

@Job Chodh Du, please understand that the official name of the "Dominion of India" was "Union of India" and that of the "British Empire in India" was "Indian Empire". Please prove that British Raj and Company Raj were the names of colonies by citing reliable sources. Also do check the article Dominion of India yourself once, the lead itself says that Union of India was the official name. And common name doesn't apply here. It's only for article titles not for any material within the article itself. Because there were multiple states called India that used the Navy, the official names are provided for distinguishing. WP:Commonname is only applicable to article title selection not here. Company Raj and British Raj refer to Company rule in India and Crown rule in India respectively not the state itself. You need to provide a source which defines it as being India itself not just the rule or the period. Or else it would be WP:OR. Also, both the articles are about the "rule", as mentioned in the lead of both the articles. Please read WP:COMMONNAME. This policy is a section in the page WP:article titles. The first line itself mentions article titles. It's only used for the article naming process. I apologise for my harsh comments earlier and I hope we can have a nice and civil discussion. If you don't think that British Raj was a country then British India should be used as Template:Country data British Raj also states British India as an alias of the country name. The article names are British Raj and Dominion of India, so there is no need to use something else and claims of Wikipedia:OR are bogus. Also as per Wikipedia: Article titles commonly recognised name should be used and British India and Dominion of India are more recognisable than Indian Empire or Union of India (some times also used for the present Republic of India). I think there was no particular name for Company rule in India but that is case for many ruling dynasties in India as the also did not had a name for their kingdom so their dynasty names are used as the name of the country they ruled. If you do not agree with that, you may use just EIC. Job Chodh Du (talk) 08:06, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to British India and EIC. And WP:article titles are for naming articles. We are not naming or moving the articles in question here. My claim of OR are not bogus unless you provide a source saying "British Raj was another name for British India and the princely states" or something. British Raj only refers to the Crown rule and corresponding period. PadFoot2008 (talk) 08:15, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am satisfied with the current version of the article and if you are also then we should end the discussion. Job Chodh Du (talk) 14:16, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
