can anyone find the church that Shem was a Deacon of?

Shem Drowne was the deacon of the First Baptist Church of Boston.

Its two colonial buildings do not exist, but they were both located on Margin and Stillman Streets (the First Baptist history in Google Books has a picture of it).

The congregation, like many other Boston churches in the Federalist/Victorian eras, moved out of the area to the larger Back Bay, once it was filled in, and its present building is on Commonwealth Ave. (The former Brattle Sq. III site, c. 1871-3, and H.H. Richardson's first commission).

I also think the gravestone noted for Copp's Hill is his, not his brother's, also; I will double check but we have always sung "Old Hundredth" to him on tours there and I'm pretty sure it's Shem's stone.

I might have a photo of the gravestone also, but will have to find it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dellaroux (talkcontribs) 00:07, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
